Question about White Sewing Speedylock 234DE FS Sewing Machine

1 Answer

I have a White Speedy-lock model 234DE that is almost 10 years old and has always worked perfectly. After sewing some heavy fabric now it wont' sew. The threads don't wind around the stitch finger. I have re-threaded several times, and cleaned much lint, even under the presser foot. Nothing seems loose or out of place. Now I am sewing on cotton woven fabric. The best I have done is for it to start to wrap threads around the stitch finger but it only lasts about 5 stitches then the thread on the bottom still loops but doesn't catch with the other threads to make a good stitch. It runs smoothly and cuts fine. (I have never had to replace the blades). It appears that something is not lined up quite right for the parts to loop all threads correctly. I am using 3 threads with the right needle. Next I could try using the left needle maybe. Any other suggestions?? Thanks

I tried the left needle and still the same problem. I just won't loop around the stitch finger! I guess I will take it in tomorrow and hope to get it back quickly.

Yes, I checked all tension, reread my manual several times, cleaned and oiled it too.

The solution only reinforced what I was hoping I would not have to do: get a service person to look at it. So not helpful. I am on the way to the repair shop.

Yikes, it does sound like it was knocked out of alignment. You have made sure all tension adjustments are right, correct? Hmmm there is not a whole lot else you can check. I would try that left needle to see if it winds correctly. If it does you know something was knocked off on that right needle. It may need to be professionally serviced at this point, it sounds like you have done all possible simple things that you can check...
Let me know what you find with that left needle and I will continue to research this.
Thanks, Tim

My janome 9000 sewing machine has stopped working 3 times when I sewed over heavy material. What s wrong with machine.

Did you take it for service? If so, the technician should be able to tell you what was wrong and what probably caused it.

If you didn't take it for service, how were you able to get it to sew again? Could be the fabric was too heavy for the needle and caused the needle to bend. It could be knocking your machine out of time. Be sure to use a heavy needle like a #16 or #18 (and for most fabrics try a "sharp" like microtex, top stitch, leather needle) and sew slowly with heavy fabric. Perhaps the fabric is too heavy for your sewing machine. I sew heavy fabric like vinyl, canvas, etc but I use an old metal mechanical machine that I can help along by turning the handwheel when the going gets tough.

What are the normal settings on a white speedy lock 234DE serger

Normal setting will depend on what you want to do with your machine. The standard factory tension setting is the mid-point of each thread dial. However, if you are doing a rolled edge, you will need to consult your manual to determine where each dial should be set to deliver the results you seek.

What type overlock needle recommended?

Try using a standard needle (15x1 or 705H), that should work.

My top tension is off. It was factory set for 5. I checked needle size, bobbin tension, thread, and for any build up of fuzz. I have a White Jeans machine. If I turn the top tension dial to 7, the bot

If the needle jams when sewing over thick items, it may be you have a dull needle? Not all machines can hem blue jean material without a hand to help the flywheel around, through the doubled over seams.

Additionally, when sewing the basic two pieces into one piece, start with the presser foot ON the fabric about a half inch sewing in reverse first, backing up to the fabrics edge and then proceeding forward through your fabric.

Fabrics too heavy or too light, are the common issues with home and commercial sewing machines.Knowing your machine and how to operate it; will get you through these "issues" when sewing.

After depressing the pedal, my White 1077 Jeans Machine will not raise and lower the needle, though I hear something spinning inside. I can hand crank it, but it has a lot of resistance. This problem...

If this model has an engage/disengage feature for the feed dogs, did you engage them before regular sewing?

After 8 - 10 hours of sewing, the needle should be replaced with a new one.

Are you stitching a heavy fabric? A machine will sometimes stall if the fabric is too thick.

What is the size of the needle used in the white superlock 1934D

This is a very highly regarded serger. Check out the reviews on if you're interested--but they are all extremely positive.

I also checked out the White Sewing Machine site--the three sergers they currently sell all use regular sewing machine needles.

Based on what I read on both sites, I believe your machine also uses regular sewing machine needles (not all sergers do, BTW). To be absolutely certain, you can call the White Help Line (l 800-331-3164, Monday through Friday 8AM to 5PM, EST).

If your serger uses regular sewing machine needles, then the size of the needle depends on the type of fabric you're sewing. Sizes 8 to 10 for lightweight fabrics, 12 to 14 for medium weight fabrics, and 16 to 18 for heavy weight. Use ballpoint needles for knits, jeans needles for denim, and universal needles or sharps for woven fabrics.
