Took out of box, unpacked, plugged in and it never initializes. Power on and alarm light blink, message reads "check printer." Unplugged, waited and plugged in again (several times and for a length of time), still same. Have not connected the phone, do not want to use the fax function. Canon tells me I need to bring it for service. It is brand new.

It was not a software issue. I had only just plugged it in. But the problem has been resolved, thanks to a few similar posts I had read. There was still a small plastic piece lodged inside that I could not see in the available light. Found it and so far, all is well. Thanks for quick help!

My canon ir 5180 blinks only d green light but d screen does not open

Start with the printer OFF:

1. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER
2. release RESUME
3. press RESUME twice, then release POWER
4. Let green light blink until printer is done futzing

Select function with RESUME press POWER to execute:

presses - light color - function

0 - green - Pressing power button will turn off printer
1 - orange - Service Test Print
2 - green - EEPROM Information Print
3 - orange - Initialize EEprom data
4 - green - Reset Waste ink Counter
5 - orange - Mode to set Destination code
(1: Overseas, 2: Domestic)
6 - green - Refresh printhead (cleaning mode)

I assume the printhead is cleaning and you need to wait for it to finish cleaning. That could take over a minute and a half; I don't know what that delay is for your printer.

If that is not the issue, you may have to reset the printer. This may be possible as follows:
  1. Hold down HELP + OK button and unplug printer (could experiment with regular power-off, but I opted for brute force)
  2. Hold down HELP + OK button again as you plug the printer back in. Then power it on, if it doesn't power on automatically. Be Safe: keep holding the buttons until the printer turns itself off. (It took mine less than a minute.)
  3. Release the buttons and simply power it back on. (If you unplug it without powering it down, you may get an improper shutdown error message. If so, click OK on the printer.)
If you are looking at a blank computer screen after all of this, you might try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.

If this does not fix the problem, you better look into troubleshooting on the manufacturer's site for help for your particular printer.

Alarm/power light blinks five consecutive times

A repeating 5 orange flash is supposed to mean a foreign object inside the machine interfering with the print head. Check at both ends or the carriage track for a crumpled up wedge of paper. If nothing is there, check down the back paper feed path. If still nothing, it is possible the print head is overheating and is about to die.

Printer will not complete initialization boot

Reset the product
The error message might disappear after you turn off the product and turn it on again. After you make any adjustments to the cartridges or the printhead, reset the product in order for the error message to clear completely. Follow these steps to reset the product.
  1. Press the Power button to turn off the product.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
  3. Wait 30 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.
  5. Turn on the product by pressing the power button.
Check the product control panel display. If the error message disappears, you are done, and you do not need to remove, clean, and reinstall the printhead.

After installing new ink cartrages the two red lights keep flashing and I can't check the cartrages to see if they are seated properly

Do you have a message on your screen ??? Try printing a document or opening the print manager and see the error message - that looks like a maintenance error when your pads need to be serviced after a set number of prints.

Press the button to set the carriage in ink change position - while your carriage is in the ink change position UNPLUG YOUR PRINTER.

ONce printer unplugged from electrical wall socket - remove all carts, and then place them back one by one making sure you use the right color for the right slot - make sure they snap in securely, close the latch.

Now plug in your printer and wait for the initialization process and see if this works....

If you still get the blinking lights, you will need to locate the error message - your printer pad counter has reached its maximum and it needs to be serviced and reset.

There are reset software out there, but you need to change the pads or divert the tube to a tank outside your printer.

My 2350 all in one will not turn on.

I'm not sure if this is a solution, but it worked for me. ( who knows how long it will last, but its working for now)

Below are the steps I took:

- uninstalled all the HP drives and software
- unplugged the USB cable from the computer and printer
-unplugged power supply from the outlet and printer
-plugged the USB back in to computer and printer
-unplugged the power supply from the power module. Made sure everything looked ok,
-reattached power supply cord to module ( Made sure everything looked ok,)
-plugged power supply in to outlet ( green light was on)
-proceeded to plug power module connector to printer. ( again, making sure proper connection was made.

* this time the screen came with an error and the "on" power light was blinking.:
This was the error message:
Error:

0xb9000009165:

hw_interupt_hwv.c

-I proceeded to unplug the power and usb from the printer
-downloaded the lastest drivers and software for the PSC 2350
-After the software was loaded and installed ( I checked the box to install with out USB communication at this point)
- plugged the power and then the USB.
-It came to life at that point. (the computer recognized the "new" product)Going through what I presume were several realignments or internal configurations.

I tested a page, and ran the HP Dinostic's page. Everything checked out, and its running fine for now.

I hope this may have given you some ideas as to fixing your printer.
