Question about Sigma 75-300mm f/4-5.6 DL Lens for Nikon AI

Open Question

Hi: I have a Sigma 75mm-300mm DL lens and the auto focus works fine on my Nikon D100, but the zoom will not move very well if at all. I bought the lens used and it looks like it hasn't been dropped. I cant find out on the internet if the zoom is motor assist or not. Should I take it to a repair shop and have it serviced or chalk it up to experiance and find another lens? Thanks in advance for the information. John

SOURCE: trouble focusing with sigma 70-300 DL macro super lens

It will not focus on anything closer than 5 feet.

(From Sigma lens literature)
Capable of macro photography, this lens has a 1:2 maximum close-up magnification at the 300 mm focal length. It's the ideal high performance lens for portraits, sports photography, nature photography, and other types of photography that frequently use the telephoto range. It also has a switch for changeover to macro photography at focal lengths between 200mm and 300mm with a maximum close-up magnification from 1:2.9 to 1:2. The minimum focusing distance is 1.5m / 59 in. at all zoom settings.

SOURCE: auto focus not working

Your Sigma 28-300mm doesn't have a HSM-motor as far as i know. When you switch it from MF to AF, you also have to disengage the manual focusing ring by pulling it towards the camera, or pushing it away from the camera. Using the AF without unlocking the manual focusing ring may damage the AF motor.
I hope this helps,
/Chris

SOURCE: Got Sigma dl 75-300mm

Every lens made after 1996 with AF is made for that particular body. Hence the reason many small camera stores when bust, carrying a huge inventory for the 6 or 8 different cameras out there.

Sigma DL IF 28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Lens is ok for D40?

That would depend on what you mean by "ok." Assuming you get the lens with a Nikon mount, it will fit onto the D40 and meter properly. However, the D40 lacks an autofocus motor and thus this lens will not autofocus. You can still focus manually.

How about a Sigma DL ZOOM auto focus 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 lens onto a Nikon D-40?

That particular lens should work on the D40 if it is made for the Nikon mount.
If not, you'd need an adapter to fit it to the Nikon mount. (i.e. if it is a Canon-type lens, you'd need a Canon-to-Nikon lens mount adapter).
You'd probably have fair luck selling it on eBay and buying the right kind of lens for your Nikon.

Will a Sigma DL Macro Super 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 Lens fit my Nikon D80?

All after market lenses are specifically designed for a brand of camera. They are for Nikon, Cannon, Minolta etc.. They can not be cross branded just as you could not use a Nikon made lens on a Pentax.

Did the sigma 75-300 dl will work with nikon d300?...i mean the auto focus and matrix focus

Yes. The D300 has a focus motor built into the body and thus does not need one in the lens. The lens will also meter properly with the D300.
