Question about KitchenAid Refrigerators

1 Answer

I own a KitchenAid Side-by-Side Refrigerator Model No. KSRG25FTSS01. It was installed April 2009. Since then, the drain pan has overflowed twice. The dealership repair crew cannot find the problem. The evaporator fan is functional. Could my refrigerator's defrosting cycle be too frequent? Is there something like a large pan that I can put under the entire refrigerator as a spill prevention measure?

No pan check the door seals make sure they are sealing good not letting air in . when you have high defrost water there is air getting in somewhere or the ice maker is leaking letting water in the freezer

The water is normal....however the evap motor and fan should be drying the water before it overflows. THe evap fan motor may need replaced. You will have to pull the unit from the wall and take the back panel off or tilt the unit back towards the wall and go in from the underneath side. As far as the door goes....you might need to tighten or replace one of the hinges.

Drain pan over flowing

The rubber seal on the water filter is bad . Replace the filter in the bottom kick plate . When the filter goes bad , water will drip into the drain pan , causing it to overflow .

I have a kitchenaid refrigerator kbfs20et that leaked

Yes it can and it also can confuse refrigerators with electronics. Think it is great you caught on the first time around. I have pictures of that happening to a Samsung and there was Ice in places I had never seen before. Yes if the refrigerator is near defrost and you leave the door open it will continue to try to cool and the compressor will run until the temperature is finally satisfied and the amount of water will be huge and overflow the condensate pan. Drain pan of refrigerator is filling up and overflowing onto the floor. This never happened before.

Maybe it is because of increased humidity inside the fridge. This could be caused by the door not being properly closed or leaking.

Defrost pan keeps overflowing

On the freezer side at the bottom of the freezer coil there is a drain. There should be a thin aluminium filiament attached to the defrost element and feeding down into the drain tube. This filiament conducts heat from the element down the tube preventing ice forming in the tube and keeping it clear.

hi there,

the drain pan is under the fridge behind the kickplate. the kickplate is the vent-line panel located under the door. it's held on by 2 screws. unscrew the screw and remove the kickplate. the drain pan will slide out. careful, as it's probably pretty full.

Check and make sure you defrost drain in the freezer isn't frozen. The water may be coming from the bottom of the freezer inside. When the heater comes on to defrost the evaporator, the water drips in to a small hole in the back bottom of the freezer inside. If the drain freezes, the water runs out into the freezer on the bottom and eventually onto the floor in front of the freezer door. It will eventually create a gap and let moisture into the freezer and may show up in the refrigerator section as condensation. Remove the ice build up including the alluminum drain pan area where the drain is located. Pour hot water into the drain to defrost it. You may have to remove the back of the freezer wall on the bottom to get better access. If the water goes down the drain, its clear. If you need a part for your refrigerator, please email me on ebay under user name themackshack. Good luck! , Mack

Drain pan leaking?

there is a drip pan located underneath you ref but most likely your prob is a plugged drain line coming from the freezer. when you ref goes into automatic def the water doesnt run out into the drip pan but instead onto your floor..

you can clean the drain line by removing the rear cover in the freezer compartment and using hot water to thaw the drain below the evap coil.
