Question about LG GH22LS40 DVD-RW Burner

Open Question

I have an LG GH22LS40 and when I first installed it everything worked fine. Months later, my PC bios showed it was still detected, yet in Windows the drive is not available. Somehow I got past that problem, but now the drive doesn't detect any CD or DVD I put in it. Drives and firmware are all up to date, but not matter what disc I use it says the drive is empty. Any clues on what I can do besides buy a new burner?

Nothing to worry about, it all depends on what type of disc is in the drive at the time.

I have same DVD writer and I am facing the same problem. During R&D for such failure on google I came to know there are two different Laser Diodes for CD and DVD. CD read write is working for me. I think DVD r-w laser has some problems. I am currently looking for options to get the new laser diode. As soon I replace the diode and see my DVD writer working. I will upload the video to replace the diode for you all.

SOURCE: LG GH22 LS50 (Sata Dvd Writer) Will not write dvd discs

What software do u use to write DVDs on both PCs...
if they are different then that may be the issue....
dont spoil the DVDs....
try DVD RW disks...that way you can erase them later...
i too have the same DVD writer, not had any issue in either XP or Win7....i have dual boot and have made many movie DVDs using both OS...i use Nero and Power2Go of LG(the install disk that came with the LG DVD writer has this great software...."LG Power tool")
try this tool...it should work...

the inbuilt DVD creator in Win7 has some issues with DVD creation....due to non compatibility of graphics card and display drivers (WDDM)....+ you may not have the correct codec required to burn DVDs.....
get the FFDSHOW codec from google.... and install it...shutdown and restart and then try...
let me have a feedback pls...

ok here's what you need to do.....

first check your dvd burner if its is detected properly on your cmos. If it is located properly try to re install windows 7 again i've encountered this problem before and i just reinstalled windows 7 and it worked like charm.

If the dvd burner is not detected on cmos try to check the jumper settings for both hard disk and dvd burner one orf the other should not be on the same setting ex. if your disk drive is on master you should set the dvd on slave and vice versa. then redo the first step. hope this helps

LG GH22LS40 will not work

You will need to check few things to get it working.

1) See that you have attached your DVD cable on the proper port of your motherboard.

2) See that the required jumper is fixed in proper place of your DVD writer.

3) Power cable of your DVD writer.

My computer wont boot because it wont automatically detect my har

Usually when your BIO's doesn't detect the hard drives is usually a good indicator that the hard drive has failed. In rare instants it is the motherboard. In the boot sequence it will only show the hard drives it sees if it doesn't see any then none will be shown. I would start with a new hard drive.

Hope this helps.

Odd boot

A "hung" system usually tells you that you have registry problems and/or buggy drivers and can include a virus (It can also include a corrupt boot sector). Well, there's a easy fix for this and a really difficult fix for this...And then there's the reinstallation of Windows. Ok, the easy fix is to goto: Start -> Programs -> System Tools -> System Restore Run the restore program back to the time where you were having no problems. Voila! If it is a virus, this will not get rid of it as some of the viruses make their way into the system restore. Then there's the difficult way to do it which is kinda like the installation of Windows but instead you hit "repair" (This is known as the Recovery Console and it's in DOS just to warn you...) Then you can type the following at the dos prompt: fixmbr - Fixes corrupt master boot record fixboot - Fixes corrupt boot sector bootcfg /rebuild - Fixes corrupt or missing boot.ini
