Question about Televison & Video
Hi, with these older units, the Tilt switch, was usually a Mercury Relay, A glass tube with contacts at one end, and Mercury at the other, when this switch is tilted the Mercury shorts out the contacts and you get a signal. Most likely this is whats wrong, have a look for these in this unit. Other times, it was a pendulum arrangement, there is an outer ring and an inner spring, when tilted it makes contact with the outer ring and again we have a signal. So this is what you need to find, and fix.
We used to simply remove these Tilt switches to stop this from happening.
Also check that the electronics that "Reads" these switches are OK, and the Buffer IC, transistor, isn't faulty as would happen sometimes.
Also sometimes it was the reverse, they made contact always & when tilted they lost contact and again we have our signal.
