Question about InFocus ScreenPlay 4800 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

The projector or bulb appears to overheat and shut down. After a few minutes when it cools down you can turn the unit back on,,,but you go through the same cyle. The unit blinks three times which is not a projection overheat warning (4 blinks means overheating). Is it the bulb or the fan? Is there a repair manual on line?

Can you hear the fan spinning? You can always take apart the unit and see if the fan is working properly, but I am quite certain it is the fan. Since it works but overheats the bulb is almost certainly not to blame.

There is no repair manual online, but you should be able to easily locate the fan, if anything you may need to measure it for size and should be able to locate a replacement without issue.

Thanks
Tim

My Proxima c170 projector will turn on and run for about 10 minutes, then the entire unit shuts down. It's as if the power was turned off.

Probably is a failed capacitor in the power board. Open the case and look for the can type capacitors with bulged tops and replace them if you can.

its definitly a cooling issue.the temp sensor is working because it shuts the unit down.when a lamp goes it goes just like a light bulb.you can open up the unit and locate the fan take it out and go to a radio shack a match it up to a universal fan.

I have a Infocus in1503. It shuts down after 10 to 30 minutes. When it does shut down there is no lights. In fact the power light goes off as well.

I seemed to have had the exact same problem... I had placed the projector on top of a small book (to raise the unit), however, did not rest the feet of the projection unit on the book and it overheated and turned off, as a result. (The bottom of the unit was making direct contact with the book which caused it to overheat since not any air was passing through between the two)

After letting it cool for a while and powering it up -- it would usually power off completely for about 15 minutes. After a little thinking, I thought it may be the lamp/bulb and waited a couple of years and bought one online that arrived yesterday.

I installed the new lamp/bulb this morning and it did the same thing. It powered down about a half hour later. Bummer.

I reset the machine to factory defaults and checked to see if it had the 1.03 firmware... It did

Then went through the settings in the setup area and turned off the 'prevent pic screen saver'... Reset the 'lamp hours'

I doubled checked the lamp/bulb installation... Turned it back on -- same thing -- it shut off after about 15 minutes or so... Then unplugged the unit and turned it over and took out the 4 or 5 chassis screws and loosened and took off the side panels and blew onto the fans and circuit board areas and gently pounded the sides to shake anything that shouldn't be there loose and put it back together.

i powered it back on and now it's been working for about 2 hours and 16 minutes!

good luck!

Turns on and runs for 2minutes and shuts off

Hi, Did you buy it new? How many hours does it have on it. I have a Sharp projector for which I bought a used bulb which started for 1 - 2 mins then shut off. Restarted a minute later then shut off again. I bought a new bulb and that solved the problem. It could also be a weak ballast if the bulb has low hours or if the filters are dirty, it could overheat and shut off. Make sure the filters are clean and the cooling fans are running and the unit has good ventilation.

Hope this helps,

Projector will only stay on for a couple of minutes then shuts off automatically. the LED turns from green to red

Make sure the venting for the cooling fan is clear and that it is activating. The only time I have seen this in a projector is when it overheats. If it reaches a certain temperature and doesn't sense the cooling fan being on it shuts down to protect the bulb and protect against fire hazard.

It quits projecting, the green light goes off and the red light of the bulb goes on. I've disconnected everything and reconnected, turn it on and it works for about two minutes and shuts off projector,...

Have you tried cleaning the fliters on the back of the unit? It's easy to do. Pull them out, and blow them clean. Also, is the projector well ventilated - mine overheats sometimes and shuts off. Otherwise, sounds like he bulb to me.

Keeps turning off

So, Shutting down to protect itself. The error light says it needs service, Cycling power makes it work for a few more minutes, then the Panasonic safety circuit shuts it down. Projector shuts down when bulb life gets to the danger zone, and also when its heat sensor says there is a problem.
So you have a bulb life issue or you have a dirty projector / fan cooling issue??

I say clean it up with some compressed air when it is cool, then check the # of hours the bulb has on it (in the menu).

Lastly brace yourself, the bulb is gonna hurt you :-$

I turn on my Sanyo Pro XtraX, with a bulb I replaced about 100 hours ago. The light is red on standy, turns green when I turn it on, but turns off and cools down after just a few minutes. this just started...

This happens to us at work quite often. Usually, it's just that the filters are dirty which doesn't allow the projector to cool and causing it to overheat. We just blow out the filters with a can of compressed air and it solves the problem.

Projector keeps shutting off and red light comes on

We had a projector at our church that was hooked up to a light switch to turn it on or off and it kept burning the bulbs out. We had an expert come in and look over our situation and he said When you are finished with the projector let the fan keep blowing until the unit cools down. Ours had a switch for the bulb as well as one for the fan. We turned out the bulb and left the fan on for an extra ten to fifteen minutes. That let the bulb cool down gradually If you just cut the power the bulb over heats and will burn out. Yes turning on for a few minutes will burn it our quicker as well. Hope this helps.
