If it shutsdown until it is cooled off, then either you have a clog in the hose or the dirt inlet by the brushroll, or a problem with the motor or motor protector. The motor protector will open when it gets too hot, it saves the motor from burning out when there is an blockage. There may be a fuse mounted where the switch is, may have to take off the handle and a cover on the front to get to it.

My miele capricorn vacumn will not turn on

I admittedly know absolutely nothing about that brand EXCEPT that they all have an automatic shutdown feature if they get too hot. Accordingly, there must be a reset button somewhere, and the manual will tell you where it is. Either that or they simply won't start again until they have sufficiently cooled down. Beyond that, I have no idea.

My Hoover Elite Rewind just lost power while vacuuming and wont power back on?

Hi! It appears your thermal protector sensor has kicked in and caused your cleaner to power off. This is usually due to a clog or a filter that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Try these steps to get your vacuum back up & running!

1. Remove the dirt cup canister from the vacuum. Twist off the dirt cup lid.
2. Remove the primary foam filter. Hold filter under running water until water runs clear. Squeeze out the filter and allow 24 hours to air dry.
3. Slide the Hepa filter out. Tap the filter against the trash can until dirt stops falling. Replace the Hepa filter. (Do not wash)
4. Remove the hose from both ends. Use a broom stick to gently loosen and clear any clogs from hose.
5. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to loosen and remove any clogs from the lower hose.

Your vacuum should turn back on after it cools off, this can take up to an hour. Hope this helps!

Why won't My Hoover savvy won't turn on

Hi Denell! Your vacuum has a thermal protector that will shut it off automatically if it becomes overheated. This is usually caused by a clog or a filter that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Follow these quick steps to check your vacuum for clogs.

1. Remove the dirt cup and the dirt cup lid.
2. Grasp pre-filter frame and pull up and out of dirt cup.
3. Separate the pre-filter and Hepa cartridge filter. The pre-filter can be cleaned with a brush and then rinsed with water. Allow 24 hours to air dry.
4. Clean the Hepa cartridge filter by tapping either of the ends until dirt stops falling from the filter. The Hepa filter should be replaced once a year.
5. Remove the hose from both ends. Use a broom stick to gently loosen and clear any clogs from hose.
6. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to loosen and remove any clogs from the lower hose

The vacuum will turn back on after it cools off. This can take up to an hour. If the vacuum has been off for over 24 hours we recommend taking your vacuum in to a service center for repair. Follow the link to locate the nearest authorized service center to you.

If it shuts off after being used for a whirl and won't come back on for a while it is probably overheating. The heat sensor shuts the machine off and won't let it turn back on until it cools down. If this is the issue it could be the filters are clogged and not allowing enough airflow to keep the motor cool. Most bag less vacuum filters should be replaced frequently even if they are cleaned regularly.

Clog and possible overheated

Hi Jen,

It sounds like your vacuum overheated due to the clog. This is a protection feature most vacuum cleaners have to prevent the vacuums motor from burning out due to a lack of air flow. The safety switch will activate and shut the machine off for a short period of time until the motor has cooled.

You should remove the clog from the vacuum, and make sure that your filters are clean. This model has a hidden filter directly underneath of the bagless dirt cup in a black tray that says "PULL". Pull this tray out, inspect the filter, and if dirty rinse under water until clean. Make sure that the filter is completely dry before reinstalling and using the vacuum cleaner again.

After inspecting all of the filters and removing the clog, let the vacuum cool down (usually just a few hours) and try to turn it on again. When you turn it on, remove the attachment hose and make sure that you have suction from the hose. When putting the attachment hose back down into the floor section of the vacuum, listen to see if you hear a change in the noise the motor makes. If you hear a higher pitched squeeling noise, this indicates that there may be a clog in the lower section of the vacuum as well. If the noise is the same then you should be ok.

If the vacuum continues to shut itself off, then either the clog has not been completely removed, or the safety thermal switch inside may now be faulty, and only at this point should you take your machine into a repair store.

I hope that this helped you!

A clog or partial clog is what causes the motor to overheat, then a thermo protector will cut off and the motor will stop until it cools down. So either you do have a clog, in the hose or down by the brush roll. If they are clear, and the filters are clean, then maybe the thermo protector is bad and needs to be replaced.
