SOURCE: Lower half of fridge side is freezing upper half is warm

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.
OR

The evaporator coil behind the cover on the back wall inside the freezer will ice up under normal conditions. Every 8 to 10 hours for around 20 minutes the defrost timer (or in most newer models the electronic adaptive defrost control) will turn the defrost heater on to melt the built up ice. There is a defrost thermostat which prevents the heater from overheating the freezer by breaking the heater circuit when the temp reaches close to 32 degrees F. The entire cooling system shuts off during the defrost cycle and starts back when the timer advances through the cycle.

If this ice is not melted it will continue to build up until the air can’t flow over the coil to circulate the cold air through the freezer and into the fridge. The temperature change in the fridge is usually noticed first followed by the freezer.

If the defrost thermostat is bad it can prevent the heater from coming on OR it won’t turn the heater off when it gets too warm. It is clamped to the evaporator coil at the top to sense the temp. If it appears to be misshapen it is bad.
With an ohm meter it should show continuity when cold and none when warm.
You can also bypass the thermostat to see if the heater comes on then. If it does then you know the thermostat is bad and needs replaced.

The defrost heater is located on the evaporator. It is in a tube which is at the bottom and can also go up the sides of the evaporator. On some types you can see a burnt spot if it’s bad. With an ohm meter it should show continuity from end to end when disconnected from the wiring in the freezer. You can also test the wiring for voltage when it’s in the defrost mode.

If you have a defrost timer you can test it. It can be located under the fridge behind the kick panel on the front. Some are in the fridge with the controls at the top. You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer because that means the timer is not running. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

If you have an adaptive defrost control instead of a timer, replace it if the heater and thermostat test good. It is located in the fridge with the controls in some models and on the back in others.

First lets decide where your leak actually is.

Areas to consider:
This is mostlikely a stopped up drain pan. A cold area that is not suppose to be cold likewhen you have a freezer coil that is suppose to be defrosting and is not... Seebelow for a more complete ideas list of things to check under Possibility.

The drain pan drain line is themost common. Inspect it and repair as needed, maybe its just a wrapper over the exit hole of the pan.
Some more Possibility's:

1 There is a drain that carries away the water under the cooling coils. Thesecoils are in the freezer section. Its most likely clogged or froze up.

2 The ice maker could be letting water leak all the way down look for an icy trail from the ice maker area.

3 Door gaskets are not sealing especially on the bottom of the door. Thisallows warmer air into the fridge section and it is condensation on floor underthe crisper.

If you check all of these items and still cant find it please post back andtell me what you did find. So I can help you more. Please rate me as much aspossible as Im trying to keep my average up and do the things that willactually educate and help people.

THANK you for using fixya and good luck..

Replaced freezer gaskets now not sealing well

Jay, Check to see if hinge can be adjusted so door closes tighter, may be a faulty door seal, or maybe it needs manipulated to soften, shape, stretch it to seal better. You can try the dollar bill trick between the seal and fridge to locate the problem/leaking spots. The bill should not pull out with out there being a little force, no force means seal is not proper in that area. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Water dispenser line frozen, items freezing in fridge side. Freezer constantly running/blowing

Your freezer is what actually cools the refrigerator. The cool air enters from that spot on the top left of the freezer. Make sure that isn't blocked. It's sounds like the thermostat that controls the air flow from the freezer to the refrigerator isn't working or the air flow control device is stuck.

Either way if you can, unload and unplug the unit. This will do to things. First it will reset the circuits that control everything and secondly if the air flow control is frozen thawing out the refrigerator and freezer may free it up.

Model acd2234hrs amana is getting a lot of ice build up through outn the freezer all food in freezer has layer of ice on it

Check that the fan is running at the back of the freezer section. If it isn't, the freezer will continue to get colder but as the air is not moving around the cabinet, you get areas of ice buildup. The fan is usually at the top of the back panel, With the fridge unplugged, remove the panel in front of the fan motor. You can otherwise check if the fan is running by pressing the door switch whilst the freezer door is open. If the fridge is running, when you press the switch, the light should go out and the fan should start.

Icicles in freezer compartment

you can do the dollar check to see if indeed the gasket is the problem, thats what it sounds like. close dollar in door and pull out slowly, you should feel some resistance.also at the top corner of door you will find 3 screws at the hinge, loosen the screws a couple of turns and you will be able to adjust the fit of the door ,move it alittle to make sure it is square with the fridge, this may help then re-tighten screws.

Seems the freezer door was not completely closed. Ice started ot melt and then form icicles! Well we closed the freezer the next morning. Now the ice maker and water dispensor are not working. In...

when you closed the door, the freezer froze all the condensation/melting ice, hence the icemaker freezing.
the best solution is a TOTAL defrost/clean out, then dry out.DO NOT USE HOT WATER/SCRAPERS,let it defrost naturally or use car de-icer.wipe out with bicarb to keep fresh.and then restart as new.
