Question about Computers & Internet

Hi, I own a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop and recently had a hard drive failure. When I boot the computer it gives me an error message saying there is no bootable devices. I was told that I would need a new hard drive but I don't know for sure. How can I fix this problem?

I have a suspicion that you made a bios default for some reason ..and the AHCI feature for your HDD was activated and the system can not see the hdd for that reason ..so ..I suggest to enter to BIOS settings ..and on the advance settings ..look for drives..IN the place where the HDD and the disk drive is seen select the HDD that it is recognized , and the AHCI function needs to be disabled if it is on ...and after that the computer will boot if there is nothing else wrong with it ..
remember look for AHCI and disable ..save with F10 and enter ..and reboot ..If you have a functional windows ,the laptop will boot OK after that ..

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and when I turn it on it tells me NO BOOTABLE DEVICE DETECTED This happen one other time and I rebooted my computer and it came back on but it did not work this time what can I...

NO BOOTABLE DEVICE When the PC cannot see a boot file/disk on either the hard disk or floppy drive it gives an error message "No bootable device. Insert boot disk and press any key"
There may be a hard disk problem.
Check the BIOS to see if the hard disk is detected, if not open the case and re-seat the hard drive and also where it connects to the motherboard.
If it still gives this error message and the BIOS does not detect this hard drive, then the hard drive is probably faulty.

To get the computer operating again, install a new hard drive in your computer and then install Windows on this hard drive plus the computer's device drivers and your programs.

I did a diagnostic test on a dell inspiron 1525 and everything passed except the hard drive with error code 0142, what does this mean and can it be fixed, thanks.

Hi,

Based on
Dell Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics and Error Codes For Dell Computers - KB Article - 30042,
it is a Hard Drive failure, and you need to replace the Hard Drive.

I suggest to try reinstall windows first before you replace the Hard Drive.

Hope it helps you.

What hot keys will unlock the hard drive in an Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop

There isn't a hotkey to unlock a hard drive. It's locked from within the BIOS.

When you boot the computer you should see a message saying Press " key " for setup.

Inside there is where the hard drive password is set.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

I did a diagnostic run and error message 2000-142 Hard drive dst test status 79 came up. what can I do to fix this problem

The dell diagnostic is an inbuilt tool that helps to identify the hardware failures...
This 0142 error occurs if the Hard drive has gone bad.. It is due to a hardware failure in the hard drive.. So toy have to replace it... If you have warranty on the computer you can call dell(18006249896).. If you dont have warranty then call any local computer shop and replace the hard drive

Error 2000-0142

Hi there!
The error code you have there means that the Drive Self Test failed. You can try to power down computer, disconnect and reconnect hard drive from the system board. Run the diagnostics , if no error occurs then it's a cable/connector issue, if it failed with the same error, replace you hard drive,
Hope this helps!

your hard drive has failed, on boot (dell splash screen) press f12 to bring up boot menu, choose diagnostics option, run this and it should confirm hard drive failure on dst short test (drive self test) and give an error code (e.g 2000 - 0142), trust me on this i am a dell field service engineer

If reseating your hard drive doesnt fix it, Insert your Windows disk into your cd/dvd drive
As the machine boots up, hit the F12 key
This will give you the option of where to boot your machine from.
Select boot from CD/DVD drive

The disk loads some files and gives an option to either install windows or repair, select repair and boot onto Windows (select 1)

It brings you to a command prompt :

Type in CHKDSK/R

Hit the ENTER key
