thank your for the imput how ever i only paid $100 for the tv and $100 for the y-sus and $40 for the buffers.. what should i do??? i tried to lighten the picture up with contrast and sharpness, nothing seems to work, the picture seems like watching it at an angle its seems darker and not as bright as it should be, if i did get teh video board what would that change???

  • declon gannon Oct 03, 2010

u said video board thats the main board.... so which do you think i need??? again i told you i didnt pay too much so far so its not a total huge loss to spend a little more as nothing will go wrong with it in the near future as everything will almost be new

Please clarify for me here.. you say the picture is off its like watching a projection up close?

What do you mean by that? It sounds like video board problems to me for sure, at this point you are going to be heavily invested into this tv, I can't believe they told you it only needed a y-sus board... it needs much more work. I don't know if it is worth the repair, it may have issues beyond just the video board.

I swear we already went through this didn't we? It's the video board that sounds like the culprit.. then I gave you the wrong link on accident, then corrected myself and gave you the right one..

    Let me know, thanks

It definitely should, at least will be a step in the right direction. This TV sounds like it has major major issues, hopefully this will be the last of them but it will be impossible to know until you swap in the board There is nothing to configure that you won't be able to handle, just regular picture settings like any other TV. If you were able to do the Y-sus you should be able to do the video board. But this is why I was warning you earlier that before you know it you may be heavily invested into this TV... it could end up being the display itself as well..

    Thanks

Model #50PC1DRA no picture but we have sound we replaced the zsus board and main logic main board and still no picture

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. As you have already replaced the Z-sus and the main logic board then the issue seems to be with the Y-main and/or Y-sus board. You’ll need to take the back off and check for any blown/bulged capacitors that might have gone bad and causing this issue. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

My tv lost its color and has a black spot on the screen, can I do to fix it?

Sounds like you YBU-YBL (Y-Buffer Upper-Lower) and the Y-SUS/Main is out. The Y buffer upper controls the top half and the YBL the lower half. The YSUS control all of this. The YSUS is also connected to of course the Power supply board and the logic board.

LG 42 inch plasma. Half screen is ok (rh side) other side black

Buffer boards or Y-SUS main needs to be replaced. What do you mean by motherboard? The power supply board or the Logic or X main.... They YBU/YBL and the YSUS work in unison. Y-Buffer upper controls top half, Y Buffer lower control bottom have YSUS controls both of those. There is also D, G, E F boards that can split screan. But they to are controlled with the Y-SUS Main. Hope this helps...

No picture, just sound, blown y buffer board twice1

a4.. there are 2 of them, upper and lower buffer boards.. they control the top and lower half of screen devided horizontally, i have had many run ins with these sets. and usually the buffer boards arent cheap.

they plug into the ysus( y sustain).. its possible your y sustain is blowing the buffer moduals because one of its i.c.'s under the heatsink has popped on ya.. effectively creating a short that blows the buffer boards.
remove the buffer boards, turn tv on... feel the 2 silver heat sinks on that y sustain( beware dont zap urself.. just the tip of your finger on the heatsinks)

you may find that one is cold and one is hot...if so, you need a new y sus and probably to replace the buffer boards the a4 upper and a4 lower.

If you get a new ysus.. plug the a4 upper and lowers into it, look at your picture.. if ur missing the top half the top buffer is blown or lower half the bottom buffer is blown. or..no picture they could both be blown..an easy way to tell if u have no picture to diagnose is..touch the heatsinks that sit over the chips on the buffers..if they are red hot.. they are bad and shorted internally.

SAMSUNG PS42Q96HD PLASMA ,16 MONTHS OLD, RED LIGHT COMES ON WHEN STARTED UP BY PUSHING IN THE ON BUTTON, AND BEFORE A NANO SECOND IT THEN TURNS ITSELF OFF, ANY IDEAS PLEASE ANYBODY ????

Could be power board. Check for swollen capacitors . If ok next check buffer boards for burnt ic. With set unplugged unplug power board from sustain boards. Plug back in and see if it turns on. Unplug again and disconnect buffer boards from sus board plug power supply back into sus to see if it powers on. If it does then buffer boards bad. Isolate upper and lower to Determine which one is bad. Just always remember to disconnect power board from sus boards when disconnecting panel to buffers. Power supply stores a lot of energy and will burn these connectors while reconnecting them.

Hi Mikshanks,

I had the same problem with my TV. It was a horizontal problem with different shades of color, and black spots. I replaced my Upper & Lower Y-buffer boards. Your Y-sus board should be okay since it still powers on the screen. You should replace the Y-buffers Upper & Lower, and it should work. I hope this helps.

42" Sanyo HD Plasma TV (Model DP42746)

Scott,
Not at all crazy! The Samsung/Akai lines seem to have numerous problems with their Y and Z sustain boards and upper/lower Y driver boards (aka buffers). That and power supplies are generally the largest percentage of the problems in those units. That said, I'm a bit confused looking at the p/n you referenced. I don't see that as being a Samsung number belonging to a Y-sus board. Usually they start with BPxx-xxxxxx..
Lastly, while you might have every ability to replace the Y-sus board if the buffers are bad and you don't replace them you could simply burn up the sustain board when you power it up... Installing the buffers is a bit more complex than the sustain board so be really careful there...\
Good Luck
Bill
