The light for the capslock key may have been burnt out- it is rare with LED lights, but it is possible. Other than watching if your characters are all caps, try getting a second keyboard and see if the behavior repeats itself. If it does- then it is likely you need to check the accessibility options- it may be a function of sticky keys.
