Question about Nordic Track Nordictrack 5600r Treadmill User Illstrd Part Manual

2 Answers

I have a NordicTrack 5600R treadmill purchased about 5 or 6 years ago. Just recently it has started making loud snapping noises, about once or twice a day. They seem electrical in nature. The noises occur when the unit is not in use but plugged in, and the front red toggle switch is set to "reset." The snapping noises do not occur when the unit is unplugged. My questions: What might be going on? Is this a dangerous situation - Is there a possibility of an electrical fire, for instance? Do I need to get my unit repaired by a professional? Is there something I can do myself to remedy this problem? (I'm not an electrician but am sometimes moderately handy.) Can I continue to use my treadmill safely? Thank you in advance for your advice. -PK

    1. Do you see any problem using the machine? or in other words, is it running smoothly?

I tested my treadmill only briefly, 3-4 minutes, using slower speeds and some incline changes with me on it. It seemed to run smoothly. I was hesitant to run it much more because of the possibility of damaging it further.

2.Try to hear the noise and see, if it is coming around the motor or ???

The noise does seem to be coming from the area of the motor, as opposed to the console or running track area.

Hi, the loud snapping noise seems to be that the motor controller is bad, which is dangerous to use because it will further damage other parts of the treadmill, but not likely to cause any electrical fire incident.
You definitely require the service of a professional as regards the treadmill, to check and fix or possibly replace the motor controller and any other affected parts because this goes beyond been handy or having electrical knowledge. It's more of technicality....

Hi,

To start with, there could be many causes for the same. It is better not to use the machine till the problem would be fixed as it could cause more harm to the machine. I do not think it could cause ' electrical fire ' or you are in dangerous situation. The reason i advised not to use the machine is to avoid any damage to the machine. As long as there is no smell, it is fine.A professional in these cases is always advised as there could be many causes for the same that needs to be checked on site.If you could provide me with further details, we could narrow down the cause :-

1. Do you see any problem using the machine? or in other words, is it running smoothly?

2.Try to hear the noise and see, if it is coming around the motor or ???

Let me know,once done.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Why is my nordictrack T6.3 making loud humming sound all of the sudden?

You don't oil belts as oil will eat away at the rubber. Start with running the machine and checking for lumps of wax build up at rollers (most common issue) if this is not it try oiling roller bearings. But call manufacturer first to see if your warranty is still good because as soon as you touch it it will void warranty.

The AT480 model has a 2 year warranty on the motor and 2 year warranty on everything else. It probably has the same warranty that you have on your AT380 machine. It can be fixed at your expense.

Unplug unit then remove motor shroud then plug unit in then start treadmill your going to use a flat tip screw driver as a stethoscope. Now place the flat on the motor at edge close to the flywheel put your on the handle your ear and you should be able hear if the loud noise form the bearing if not, then repeat procedure on the other end by the fan if the noise is pin pointed on the motor then replace motor, if not originating from the motor the proceed to the front roller.
Use a flash light and observe and locate the font roller shaft so that you can comfortably rest the tip without it slipping on either end of roller.
As before repeat the procedure that was performed on the motor if noise originated their then replace roller if not proceed to rear roller.
Use you flash light and look the adjusting bolts where the end caps are the proceed to insert the screw driver and make contact with the tension bolts listen to each side.
You should locate noise with this procedure take your time and be careful

I have a Nortic track exp 1000 about 4 to 5 years old. It has recently started to speed up on it's own. It happens only occasional.

Check speed sensor and make sure belt is lubricated. If this two are fine than motor control board may need to be repaired or replaced.
