Question about Canon EOS Elan IIE 35mm SLR Camera

1 Answer

Broken latch on hinged back

Black-plastic slider, abt 1/8" x 21/2" on one side showing thru small lock window on left-side (back view), and is attached to spring, has small estruding latch that locks the back closed. I can replace it. It must be only a $0.20 worth of material and manufacturing. Repair shop wants $180.00 to replace it. Where to obtain such a vital but small piece of plastic?

Try calling Canon's parts department at 1-732-521-7230 and see if they still have the part in stock. The part number is CF1-3129-000 and should cost less that $2.00 I think.

Back of camera will not close looks like small piece of plastic has broken

Yes, the film door was always a problem on these. The entire door was usually replace since it was one piece with the latch.

I do not believe that Nikon supplies the part any more. You can check eBay for a dead camera, or possibly a new /used door.

The other option is a repair kit available from USCamera.com

Broken latch on film door

Usually on this level Nikon it was a plastic "hook", part of the door moulding, that was retained by the latch mechanism in the body. The broken part may still be in there - if it is trip the latch and recover it with a tiny screwdriver or even a needle. If you can't find a replacement back door you can try welding the hook back in place with a low-temperature soldering iron - with the tip perfectly clean and a very steady hand - as long as the door is thermoplastic and not thermosetting. If that doesn't work bend a paperclip or similar to exactly the right shape with the free ends (roughened) long enough to extend into the plastic of the door by 4-5mm., heat the wire and push slowly into the edge of the door. There are many variations of this technique that I've used, all require extremely careful work! Best tip: spend more time thinking than doing. Good luck.

Film door will not lock closed

I suspect taht you can obtain a replacement back. The back should be removable by sqeezing together two pins on the hinge side of the back (on the inside). You should call B&H Camera in NYC (866-239-7781). They should be able to give you a price and order you one.

Camera film door will not latch. The door latch

Can it be repaired? It needs a new latch piece. Maybe a new door, if its all one piece.
I do not own one so not sure about that model. Look at the door hinge. If a small lever sticks out of the hinge, it may be easily removed and replaced with a new door. otherwise you need to remove the bottom plate of the camera to replace the door. Be very careful doing so as things could pop out when you open it.
You could also send it in to a repair shop, where they will also clean, lubricate and adjust it before returning.

Is it worth it? Only you can answer that. You might be able to pickup a used one on Ebay, so you have a source of parts.
If you have no reason to keep that particular camera, replace it with a newer Nikon, so you can keep using your flash and lenses.

Don't know how to open door latch on nikon 35mm SLR camera

You haven't stated which model you have, but generally most SLR's open by pulling upwards on the film rewind crank (the knob on the left side of the top-plate as viewed from behind). If this doesn't work then add the exact model as a comment to my answer and I'll try to give you specific instructions for your model.

How do i replace internal battery on the minolta maxxum 7000? i replaced the AAA batteries, but it still just flashes ''film'' in window.I have no manual and dont know how to get the film out.HELP!

Unscrew battery compartment on the right grip, and remove the battery holder (AAA's in most Maxxum 7000's) In the compartment you should see a silver colored metal plate, held on by 6 small phillips screws. Unscrew these, and carefully lift the plate, and move it aside (there's a tiny wire soldered inside the plate, so don't break it off).

Inside there should be a CR2016 lithium button battery. Replace it, and reassemble in reverse order.
NOTE: This probably won't fix any issues regarding the removal of the film, as the 2016 is just a memory backup battery for when the main batteries are removed.

to remove the film, install fresh main batteries, turn on the camera via the "Lock" switch and rewind the film. on the back of the camera, just behind the LCD screen, above the film door, you will see a grey button marked "R". Push and hold it, while sliding the gray slide switch immediately to the left of it to the left. The film should now rewind.

When the film is done rewinding, open the back via the sliding latch on the left side of the body with the gray button in the middle. Push the button, while sliding the latch down.

To insert film, place the cartridge in the same place and orientation as the old roll, and pull the leader over to the red dot on the bottom right of the film compartment, and close the back. it should advance to the first frame if done correctly, or blink 0 if done wrong.

How to replace the door latch on a canon rebel eos ti

The cameras film door has a very small phillips head screw inside the battery doors hinge. Its a pain to take out & replace if you hands are shakey for this screw is so small. Also installing the replacement hinge would be a little harder to install tha removing the broken one.
I hope this information will help you. A camera shop should be able to do it for free if you maybe purchase some items there. Most shops which are very small and privately owned shops will do this for you

CAN WORKOUT HOW TO OPEN NIKON FE CAMERA

Sept 19th, 2008
On the bottom of the Nikon FE, there is a silver button to push in, and this releases a lock for the film.
Then on the left side, on the top, there is a white arrow and a silver lever tucked in. Wind your film, this it's all the way back in the canister. Then the black lever by the speed film (ASO) numbers, pull that back toward you. This will release the black 3/4" knob upward, and by gently pulling this upward, your door will release and the film canister will be allowed to come out. Just besure to wind your film back in the cansiter, before you open the door, or your photos will be over exposed. Best to do this in a darker area or shaddowed area, just for protection.
Good Luck. I've had mine since the mid 1970's and love it for double exposures and the special filters I have for it. The Hot Shoe for the flash attachment, just burned out on me a couple of days ago.
