Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I was given a Dell Inspiron 530 with Vista sp1 x64. The dvd drive will read from magazine dvds but not burn or read new dvds. Poweriso says burn successfull but the dvd is blank. Everest and Speccy find the dvd without a problem and device driver says it is fine. I installed new drivers to no avail. It is set on mastered. I beleive this doesnt matter. It will not burn for other burn programs.Explorer cannot access it at all.I dont have old drivers. It is a PLDS DVD+RW DH-16A6S ATA device. Is there anything I can do?

With what program are you burning the DVD? You mean PowerISO? If you have Nero or other CD/DVD Burning program, burn the file as Image, not directly to the DVD and after the burning is completed, reburn the image file to the DVD. Sometimes this helps.

And I don't think this is possible with PowerISO.

You can also try with another DVD or CD Brand or Make, sometimes some media (dvd or cd) aren't compatible with the drives, in that case, switching the media brands will fix the issue.

If you have another computer where you can connect the drive, dismount the drive and connect it to the other computer, now try burning dvd or cd from the other computer. If the problem persists, there's internal problem with the dvd drive, you better claim the warranty or get another replacement. You can repair it, but repairing and purchasing a new one will cost you more or less similar.

If it works on another computer, then try with another data cable. You can also try changing the Master to Slave drive.

Let me know when you are done and what you can do with what I've mentioned.

Thanks and awaiting.

My dvd burner reads dvd's but will not burn them it reads and rites cd's I have no idea what the problem is but i could use some assistance my computer is a dell inspiron b130

The Inspiron B130 is an older (5 to 6 years) budget pc with an optical drive that can read and write CDs but can only read DVDs. So your problem is not really a problem but rather a limitation. My Dell Inspiron 530 will play CDs but it does not read DVDs any more. All my drivers are up-to-date. Anyone having this problem, or more importantly know how to fix it?

my friend this not about drivers.
laser head (which read discs) is weaken.
in common way you should change your DVD drive completely.
but i learn you a great way and this way isn't dangerous.
in this way you only clean laser do these works:
1- open PC's case and evolve DVD drive completely from The Case.
2- open DVD drive's screw's and try to find a small & shiny piece (laser head) (it is like Diamond!).
3- rub slowly on that shiny piece with a piece of cotton stained but some alcohol.
4- assemble DVD drive and put it back in The PC Case.
5- congratulate you because you saved you money smartly.

Can i burn the mini cd's/dvd's in my inspiron 1525?

Yes you can, your Notebook has a Dvd Writer with it, mini or normal dvds/cds will burn well without any problem if the Cd/Dvd Drive has no issues reading/writing Cds/Dvds.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Inspiron 1525 PC Notebook: can i use Dell Inspiron 1525 to burn dvds? How to ...

Hi Richard, yes you can burn DVDs with your laptop. Check the CD/DVD disc that came with your computer. However, I understand its pre-installed either with Roxio or Sonic utilities. On the other hand, if you have Vista and Windows 7 it will do as well.

Please comment if the information provided has been helpful for the improvement of my support assistance. Thank you and regards.

How do i know if my computer can bur dvds?

If you have Vista, it most likely can burn Dvd's only because most of the new computers come with DVD burners. But another way you can check is click on the start icon, go to Computer and under Devices and Removal Storage you should see DVD RW Drive(E.). The (E) could be different depending on what the drive letter is. Hope this helps.

Dell Inspiron 530 CDRW/DVD problems

Are you a smoker? Its possible that a good bit of cigarette smoke buildup has accumulated on the CD burner's internal laser lens. One of those cheap CD cleaner disks might work to clean the laser lens, but usually one would have to open up the CD drive and carefully clean the lens using ear swabs moistened with isopropyl alcohol.

Burn DVD

Read on your optical drive. If it burns CD's it reads CD-RW. In order to burn DVD's it needs ro read DVD-RW. If it reads DVD-ROM it will only read DVD's not burn them.

A good external burner is Plextor. You can get one at Walmart, or you can check Ebay and find an internal to replace the one in your machine. They are fairly easy to replace, and you won't have a bulky external to carry around.
