Question about Stanley NEW Bostitch 2 HP 6 Gallon Electric Air Compressor

1 Answer

This Bostitch Pancake 6 Gal. compressor was working fine. Today it refused to compress beyond 30 pounds. Last time I used it (a week ago) it zipped right up to working pressure. Now it just runs and runs. If I turn it off it holds at 30, so there doesn't seem to be a leak. The compressor appears to need something, but what?

is it building up any pressure on the gauge
if the pressure recorded is around 40 psi or less , replace the failed poppet/reed valves in the compressor head
if it goes to 100 psi then replace the automatic controller for the motor

My fn1664k does not shoot a 2 inch nail all the way into a 2x4

Check the pressure at the gun to make sure the hose is good. Make sure the gun is oiled. The compressed air forces a piston down to drive the nail. the inside of the cylinder may be corroded causing the piston not to move as fast as it should or with as much force. Most air guns are pretty easy to disassemble to inspect. You should be able to figure this out pretty quickly this way.

I'd pull the cover off to expose top of cylinder head and have a look at any intake air filter. In parts diagram, It appears there is a small one that would likely clog during the texturing process.

Check you model number. I don't think cw0100 is correct. Most 1HP 4 gal pancake compressors are oil-free.

Type of oil used in pancake stanley compressor

An air compressor should have 30 weight non-detergent oil only, or it will foam up and not oil the bearings.
