Question about Stainless Garden Sun Steel Propane Patio Heater

1 Answer

This is a new unit - used 4 times. The gas will no longer flow and light the unit. Sometimes I can get the pilot to light but when I turn the valve to light the heater the pilot goes out and nothing. The tank is full - brand new. I tried a different tank also brand new and the same result.

Sounds like the thermocouple is not working or you are not keeping the start or pilot button depressed long enough before turning gas valve to on position. Check to see if thermocouple end hasn't come loose, the pilot should be hitting it. This produces the small electrical current necessary to open gas valve. Hope this helps.

I am a new homeowner. I have an H400IDLunit that is a pool/spa combo. The code reads "00" in the heater window and does not change when the unit controlls are pressed. I have an aqualink...

I don't know if there is a pilot light, spark ignitor or thermal ignitor. I would determine by inspection what kind it has. If you open the front cover you will find a gas valve. It can be identified by following the gas pipe that enters the side of the heater and attaches to the gas valve. If the valve has a control knob on it that has an off, on and pilot position then it is a pilot type. If this control is not on the valve then the unit includes an automatic ignitor.

To light a pilot equipped system place the knob in the pilot position, push it down, and use a flame to light the pilot. If you hear gas flowing from the pilot but it won't light then there is air in the line and it needs to be purged. Holding the pilot lighting valve down long enough will purge it but may take a long time. Periodically you can check it by trying to light it. If it lights watch it for a while before trying to turn the heater on to make sure it is fully purged. Once the pilot is stable and the thermocouple is heated the pilot valve can be released and it should stay lit. If not, try again.

Don't get down and look into the burners while you are trying to start the system because it could flame out and burn your face. If you turn on the heater again then the gas valve should come on and the burner should light. You can usually hear a loud snap when the gas valve come on. You should then hear the gas flow to the burner. If the burner doesn't light you should be able to smell the gas. If it lights exhaust will be coming out of the vents in the top of the heater.

I am sure you will have more questions so please respond with them. I hope this helps.

Hotpoint gas stove. burners work, oven and broiler do not.

Probably the safety valve. This unit broils and bakes off the same gas burner. A spark ignitor lights the pilot and this save gas because no standing pilot is needed. It takes a few minutes for the thermocouple bimetal combo to release the gas. When the temp gets to the desired rate then the bulb on the oven control closes off the flow of gas. To recap: The flow of gas comes from a regulator along a rail which supplys the gas to the top burners and the oven control. older models had pilot light tubing going down to the oven and to the top burners. This newer style uses a spark module to light off the top burners and the oven. So when yall turn the the oven on the spark ignitor lights the pilot first and then after the mercury bulf thermocouple heats up the bimetal inside the valve opens allowing gas to flow out to the pilot and ignite the gas burner. the temp rises and the mercury bulb oven control expands closing off the flow but not the gas safety valve. I would suspect the safety valve on this one.

I just lite by pilot light and the furnance will not go on. Does this mean that there is air in the line and gas will eventually flow to the unit and start heating?

If your pilot light stays on then gas is to that point. Make sure that you have turned control knob to gas on setting and thermostat is turned up calling for heat. If you still don't have any heat lightly tap on body of the gas valve. I know this sounds archaic but sometimes it works and it doesn't cost much. If your unit has a seperate thermostat you can remove the cover and base if needed to get to stat wires. Disconnect them and touch them together. If this brings the gas valve on then replace thermostat. If not I would change gas valve. Hope this helps you. Thanks

check to make sure your pilot orfice is not clogged it will be located at the end of the small tube coming from your gas control valve if its not then while you are trying to light the pilot tap the side of the gas valve (sometims somewhat hard) if it then lights you know you have a bad gas valve

GE Hot water heater Model GG40T06TVG00 Won't light. Recent actions: Pressure Release was continually leaking. Replaced with 150lb 3/4" with long neck. Not enough water was drained from tank and upon...

Hello,

If your GE hot water heater fails to light, the first thing you should do is make sure the gas is turned on. Before checking the gas be sure to turn the control knob over to "Pilot." This will prevent the heater from coming on unexpectedly while you are checking the unit. After making sure that the knob is set to "Pilot," carefully remove the cover and look for the flame at the end of the gas line.
If the pilot light is not on, it is possible that the gas inlet valve is partially or totally closed. To check, turn the handle next to the line and follow the instructions on the tank to relight the pilot light. Keep the cover off of the unit and look for the pilot light to go on. If the pilot light does not light, gas may not be flowing. If you suspect a problem with the gas line, be sure to contact your utility company right away.
If you suspect that the burner on your GE hot water heater is not on, remove the cover and carefully look at the burner. If the burner is not on, make sure that the thermostat is set properly. The thermostat should be set to approximately 120 degrees Fahrenheit - if the setting it not right adjust it and then turn on a hot water faucet and allow it to run for several minutes. After the faucet has been running for a few minutes, look at the burner again. If the burner does not ignite, try adjusting the thermostat up and down until the burner comes on.
Good luck.

Hello
This sounds like a bad thermocouple,a small copper tube running from the pilot lite area to the gas valve which feels heat and keeps the gas valve open for gas to flow through, when calling for heat and also keeps the pilot light lit.

Try replacing it,br sure all gas is off prior to doing any work to unit.

Hope this helps.

I HAVE A VERMONT CASTINGS RADIANCE HEATER MY PILOT LIGHT WONT STAY LIT I HEAR THE THERMOCOUPLER TRIP THE VALVE BUT THE FLAME WILL GO OUT

We had this problem and struggled with it for over a year. We finally hired someone to come in and service the stove he cleaned everything and blew a piece of crud from the pilot line. NO Problem for 2 years since.
He told me the pilot light should look strong pointed like a pencil not curved up like a candle. He removed the pilot and disassembleed the line and used compressed air.

Gas Furnace Will not light

Hi, normally when you turn the gas off at the flex line valve and leave it off for awhile, the gas has to clear the gas valve and lines up to the pilot. Purge its self of air before it will light again. It will take the electronic ignition several clicks and more before there is enough gas to light the pilot and then open the main gas valve to fire the burners. Tell me, what kind of gas furnace is this when you speak of water? you say the site glass was full and you had to drain it and then the ignitor kept on clicking when it normally only took one click to light it. Please let me know the style as in a split system, a package unit, all in one, or what you have. I will wait to hear back from you. If the pilot does not light right away, then yes let it continue to click and see if it will light. On a heater with the electronic ignition control module on it or a circuit board, this is what tells the pilot coil to energize to light the pilot. It will send power to the pilot coil to open and let gas through to light and same for the main gas valve, will get a signal to open when the pilot is on. It will not open unless the pilot is lite for saftey. I will wait for you're responce.

My pilot light will light, but will not stay lit? I have a gas whirpool water heater aprox 1 1/2 years old.Thisis the first time we have encountered any problems with our appliance.

Once the flame has struck it heats up a thermocouple that in turn holds the gas valve open

It is a safety measure in case the flame blows out and the gas keeps on coming.

Sometimes the end of the thermocouple gets dirty and a scrub with a fine emery board does the trick

If not it is a new part (They are not that expensive)

Pilot will not light

The Pilot indicator will appear to line up with the arrow on the base, and even push in as though allowing gas to flow, but if it is just 1mm out of alignment, no gas will flow. So the solution is to move the valve in the Pilot mode slightly in one direction or the other to see if/when gas flows.
