I had the same problem. My husband took it apart & found that there is an infrared signal that is supposed to recognize when there is paper going through & then when it stops going through it is supposed to turn off. The problem was that the infrared signal burned out & therefore the automatic shut-off will no longer work. You will just have to manually shut it off each time.

I have a Omnitech model OT-X150B and I cleaned out the shredded paper and when I put the shredder back on top the power does not go back on?

If your shredder runs in the reverse direction but not the forward direction their is likely a problem with the paper activator switch, the mechanism that senses paper being inserted in the slot. The switch could be bad or more likely the little arm that activates the switch is broken. I have been unsuccessful in finding replacement parts for this mechanism. The solution that I found successful is to override the mechanism. There are at least two ways this can be done and both require some disassembly of the shredder. My problem was a broken activator arm. The way I found easiest was to fine the actuator switch and force it to stay in the on position. This I did with several strips of aluminum tape. The other way is to bypass the switch by shorting it out (connecting the two switch input wires). This is the only solution that works if it is the switch itself that is bad. In either case the shredder no longer has an "Auto" mode which means you have to operate it manually, that is, when not in use the machine will be on the off position and when you want to shred move the control to the auto position which will start the motor/shredder in the forward mode. When finished shredding return to the off position. Good luck

After emptying the collection box on shredder 2800 it wont now engage with machineto allow opertion. This happened once before . Is it something to do with resetting? Otherwise was working well.

Hi anonymous,

No... it only has to do with the "bucket" not being fully or correctly returned to it READY position... (check manual below)

There is a micro-switch on the underside of the shred-head
(Don't even look without unplugging - UNPLUG FIRST).

DO-NOT put anything you value
under the shred-head.. . Most likely you be heading to the ER with some hamburger... (won't come out nice).

Make sure the bucket is all the way in... else pull it out & put it back again... (CLEAR hanging chad... UNPLUG FIRST)

Worst case ... Read the instructions!!

Paper shredder doesn't move due to too much adhesive paper - how to fix it

Before trying anything I suggest, make sure your shredder isn't plugged in.
You will need to remove the adhesive from the rollers. You will need to use a glue solvent on the shredder rollers, something like Goo Be Gone. Personally, I still use Ronsonol Lighter Fluid In the image below I've outlined the supplies you'll need to, hopefully, clear your jam.

25346531-f3timxio4jyou4u0bydnlgfi-2-0.jpg Without disassembling your shredder, the best way to clear your jam is to use Rosonol Lighter Fluid (3), tweezers (4), and dental picks (5).
  1. Make sure you are working in a well ventilated area. Separate the shredder from its shredded paper collection tub.
  2. Turn the shredder head upside down so that the paper output is facing up.
  3. Pour Rosonol lighter fluid on both sides of the rollers near where they come together.
  4. Use dental picks and tweezers to dislodge stuck paper pieces
  5. Turn Shredder head over and repeat steps 3 and 4
  6. Move power switch to the "Off" position
  7. Plug power cable back in
  8. Move power switch to "Rev" (reverse) position, if still stuck move power switch to the "Fwd" position, repeat twice
  9. Repeat steps 1 - 8 until the rollers move freely
Once the rollers are moving smoothly you need to oil the rollers.

I have a John Deere RX 75 that worked perfectly fine. I just did maintenance by greasing some fittings and I sprayed WD-40 on some of the moving parts under the seat (throttle, levers, etc.). After I...

If it's a hydrostatic, most likey you pulled the manual over-ride (only way to move the tractor manually). By leaving the over-ride level in the disengaged position, the tractor will start & run, but not move forwards or backwards. Correct by closing the the lever to it's closed (operational) position.

The shredder was paper jammed

Hi,

Ensure the wastebasket is empty then move power switch to the REVERSE position. This will reverse the jammed paper out of the shredder. If shredder jams again, alternate control switch slowly between REVERSE and AUTO (l) positions to attempt to move jammed paper completely through the shredder. If the shredder jams in reverse mode, move the switch to AUTO (l), depress the manual forward button located on the center of the shredder head and allow to run for five seconds. If jam does not clear, move switch to REVERSE again and allow to run for five seconds.

Repeat this process until jam is cleared. If necessary, turn off shredder and use care to grasp the paper and carefully pull out to clear jam. Once cleared, move switch to AUTO (l) to continue shredding. The jamming may be happening because the cutting cylinder needs to be oiled.

Follow instructions to oil your shredder;

To keep your shredder in top condition, the cutting blades need to be oiled every so often (for frequency, please refer to your owner's manual). We recommend using Powershred® Lubricant or a vegetable-based oil (such as corn or canola) in a non-aerosol container with an extension nozzle.

Caution: Never use flammable synthetic oil, petroleum-based, or aerosol lubricants to oil the cutting blades. Some agents may combust, causing serious injury. NEVER USE WD40.

1. Depress and hold the reverse button down.
2. Put the tip of the oil bottle in the paper entry and make one or two sweeps the length of the entry while squeezing the oil bottle.
3. Move the power switch to Auto (I) position, or depress the manual forward button (depending on model of shredder) and allow the blades to run at least three seconds.
4. Move the power switch to Reverse (R) position and allow it to run for at least three seconds.
5. Repeat steps three and four above at least three time.

Regards.

Machine won't shred. Does turn on, and goes in

You dont say make or model so...get some shredder oil into the cutting teeth where you insert the paper...especially if its a x-cut shredder..make sure once in a while you shred a piece of paper with some of the oil poured onto the paper for lubrication of the cutting blades.

Forgot how tostart it

Ensure you have the correct Fuel / Oil mix for your machine first.

Find the choke knob and turn to the closed position.
Find the Primer Bulb and pump it until it is full of fuel, once the bulb is full give it 3 pumps (If the primer bulb is already full of fuel just give it 3 pumps)
Make sure the ignition switch is in the "I" position and not the"O" position.
Pull start! (should take no more than 3-4 pulls before it fires)
Once it fires it may die instantly.... if so cancel the choke and pull start (should fire again on first pull)
If it does not die and it keeps running, cancel the choke while maintaining the engine's rev's.

Hope this helps.
