Everything works but it is making a awful noise when spinning like sand and metal is grating

Sounds like drum bearings may be bad. They use make horrible almost screeching noises. You would need to look up your particular ubit. On some they are integrated into the drum as an assembly and replacement is expensive.

Why is it now squealing when in spin mode

If your dryer is the kind with rotating drums, might be a bearing. You should disassemble it and check if can be replaced

Dryer making a screeching noise when rotating

There are parts inside the dryer that require periodic maintenance, such as oiling the drum wheels, replacing the drum glides - when they become worn.

My dryer is a model number GLER341AS2 and when I turn it on it makes a sreeching noise. Now the screeching has turned into a louder noise almost like a rubbing thud.

The symptoms you describe indicate that your dryer drum bearings are faulty: there is usually a large 'felt' bearing around the opening which support the drum and prevent metal to metal contact (screeching noises)- The drum must be removed to get to this front bearing (which is normally glue to the dryer front panel at the drum opening): it is not a trivial job and is not normally replaceable by end-users.

Hope the explanation helps.

My Maytag dryer makes an awful screeching sound when I start the dryer. It still dries the clothes, but I can't stand the noise.

your rollers or belt idler is corroded. you need to take dryer appart and lubricate the parts in question with MINERAL OIL or SPECIAL BEARING LUBRICANT. """"DO NOT USE WD-40 OR 3 IN ONE OILS"""". good luck to you.
