New Compaq Presario V5315WM was graduation gift for daughter June 2007. By January 2008 she called from college and said that the USB connection was not working. When she plugs anything in, printer, camera, mp3 player etc a message comes up saying that the device is not recognized. She took it to the computer center and they are stumped. We took it to circuit city when she got home for Easter and they said that this happens to some compacs and we should contact the company. Advice!

When I Connect My Aiptek 8100 camera to the PC, they show a message "USB device not recognized." Is this because I did not install it's driver? If so please tell me where I can find the driver?

Usually usb device not recognized is due to damaged usb cable or usb port..use a different usb cable and connect it to your pc, if your usb cable is ok then connect it to a different usb port. if the problem in not with the usb cable or port install driver from the cd you got with camera. if you dont have that cd download driver from the device manufacturer site.

How to Fix USB Device Not Recognized Error

One of the most common errors in Windows is the USB Device NotRecognized malfunction. Thankfully, this is not in any way poses athreat to the security of your system though sometimes it may causeyour system to "hang" or experience delays. The USB Device NotRecognized error simply means that your computer cannot distinguish theUSB device that is inserted in one of the USB slots of the computer.
There are different reasons why one's system gets this error. Asidefrom the attached devices at the USB slots, it is also possible thatthere is a malfunction in the host controller hardware. Moreover, thecomputer may not support the USB 2.0 that's why this error pops up atthe screen. There are also some system configurations or hardware thatare experiencing glitches as well.
But you can try different ways to resolve this error so that youwould not have to deal with the pop up message "USB Device NotRecognized".
If there is any connected USB device, gently unplug it from theslot. It might be loose that's why the error appeared. Wait for acouple of seconds before you plug the device again. Make sure that itis secured at the port.
You can also use the Device Manager so your system can scan and lookfor the new hardware. Open the Start menu then choose Run. Typedevmgmt.msc at the box then clicks Enter. Once the Action menuappeared, choose Scan for Hardware Changes. It will allow your systemto look for newly installed devices.
But if these techniques didn't resolve the error, you can tryunplugging the USB device from the port before shutting down thecomputer. Don't open it again immediately and wait for at least twentyminutes or so. However, if you still can't seem to fix the USB DeviceNot Recognized malfunction you may need to update your driver instead. You should know the website of the manufacturer so you will check outthe latest about the driver information. It would just take a couple ofminutes before you can get the updated driver information so you canstop the error from appearing from time to time.

Usb ports not recognized

Did this suddenly start to occur? Were they working before? If so, it is very simple - shut down computer, remove the battery and unplug any power source, wait a couple of minutes and reassemble and power up. Wala! I read all kinds of complicated instructions, started with the simple, and problem solved.

Non of the 3 USB ports works anymore for unknown reason

ok, the answer is pretty simple, ur usb ports connect to a internal hub, that hub is what has malfunctioned, u need to reinstall that device's driver though the device manager on vista, go to start, type device manager in the search box, click device manager in the list, a uac query will appear, click continue, on device manager go to universal serial bus controlers and click the +, right click the usb root hub and uninstall it, repeat that for all of the usb root hubs, then restart ur pc, it will automatically reinstall the devices with a fresh driver, plug in your usb device and it should work, have a great day and happy holidays

Cant use my usb

Refresh and reinstall USB Ports Of Your Computer Hello there, the other day i tried refreshing and reinstalling the USB ports on my PC, as some of my connecting devices are not recognized. I present the detailed procedure on refreshing the USB ports.
Let’s go!!

Here are the steps to refresh/reinstall/uninstalling the USB ports on the computer.

The USB port needs to be refreshed to make sure that no other device has captured the USB port of the computer. The Mouse, video camera, your external USB hard disk; what ever it may be.

Follow the steps given below to refresh USB ports.

1. Right-click My Computer icon on the desktop, and then select Properties.
2. Click the Hardware tab.
3. Click the Device Manager Button.
4. Click the plus (+) sign to the left of Universal Serial Bus controllers.
5. Right-click the device listed under Universal Serial Bus controller and select Uninstall.
6. Click OK to confirm the removal of the device.

Please note, repeat Steps 5 and 6 until all the devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller are removed.

7. Shut down the computer.

CAUTION: Ensure that the Shut Down option is selected, instead of the Restart option.

8. Wait for 5 seconds and then restart the computer. When the computer restarts, a "Windows has detected new or added hardware" message window will open.

The above steps will refresh the USB ports.

Now connect the USB devices like mouse, video camera, your external USB hard disk...USB hubs...whatever you like and the drivers should install automatically.

Tip: It is always recommended to connect the main USB devices at the rear end USB port. As they require more power to initiate.

The above steps are for XP operating system. When coming to the matter of Vista, please note the changes below:
===========================
1) Right-click Computer icon from the desktop , and then click Properties to open the System Properties window, and then select the Device Manager tab.

2) Click the Plus (+) sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers/Root hub.

3) Click the USB Composite Device entry to highlight it, and then click Remove. If a screen appears to confirm the deletion, confirm the deletion.

4) Disconnect the USB cable to the all-in-one, wait a couple seconds, and then reconnect the cable. This should restart Windows device detection (Plug and Play).

5) A New Hardware found screen may appear, click next through all of the screens that appear for the Wizard to install the USB Composite Device. Click Finish once the wizard completes.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

This solution worked for me when I got the USB device not recognized message:

It can be quite frustrating. I've heard that older computers are more likely to have the USB device not recognized message.
