Question about Polycom SoundPoint IP 550 IP Phone

3 Answers

Trying to connect my office phone to my home PC. 1. Yellow cable from Polycom Soundpoint IP 550 SIP phone to PC can be hooked up no problem. 2. Black LAN cable: a. There are two cables coming from the wall socket. A green cable that connects to a “phone” socket in the back of At&t 3800HGV-B hub/modem (?)/(internet and U-verse TV). The grey cable connects to a “phone 1 & 2” socket. The LAN cable will NOT fit into either wall socket. b. In the back of the At&t hub the LAN WILL fit into 2 available Ethernet sockets. There is a “broadband” and “aux” socket available but has tape covering the socket. c. If I plug LAN into Ethernet sockets I get display message ‘COULD NOT FIND BOOT SERVER WITH EXISTING CONFIGURATION”. When the phone initializes I get flashing message “Sunday, December 31, 4PM”. If I pick up phone the display message is “URL CALL DISABLED.” 3. Appears that At&t is not compatible with LAN, or I need another piece of equipment (router or?) to complete hook-up. HELP?

Gene,
The computer connectors are so designed that only the correct can be connected to the correct socket. So if it fits it is meant for that socket.
At boot up please press F2 and enter the BIOS. Here look for Boot up sequence. Your PC seems to the set to boot up from a LAN server. Change it to HDD.
You do need a router. Whether a wired or a wireless is your choice.

Hello, Gene.

If you haven't already, reset the modem/router.

Hope this helps.

These phones definitely need a specific type of phone network behind them, they do not work with just a home style phone connection and a regular PC. You will need someone to come to your house and re-wire your existing phone setup if you desire to use this phone system. Also you will need a phone server (computer) that has the configuration for the phone and will log and route some types of calls.
Basically it is a very extensive and expensive routine to get this phone up and running, I would not recommend it for home use. Usually these models of phone are used in a setting where hundreds if not thousands of the handsets are in use, and then it makes sense to have servers for them.... for your case I think you may want to go with another style phone.
Thanks Tim

SOURCE: what is the default password for Polycom

Default Passwords:
To get into the web interface, the default username/password is "Polycom"/"456" (Note that this does not work with Safari 1.2.2.)
To get into the Admin interface on the hard phone, the password is "456". (Prior to v1.3.1, the web interfaces to the phone uses "Polycom"/"SpIp" as the username/password.)
The "user password" (not used much) defaults to "123".

To reset a lost admin password to default: at phone boot, during the 5 second countdown, push/hold 468* on the phone. Enter the phone's MAC address as the password. This will reset network info but keep peers loaded. Tested on Soundpoint IP 650.

Here are the instructions for configuring these units for 3cx

Since the 3cx softphone worked well, I don't see why you couldn't configure each as for 3cx and make them work as well.

Polycom SoundPoint 550-Only Showing 1 line

On the phone, press the menu button, then status, then IP status or whatever and get the phone's IP address. Write the ip address down. On your computer, open up a web browser and input the phone's IP address into the address bar and press enter. This should arrive you at the web gui for that phone. It'll probably ask you for login credentials; by default, the name is "Polycom" (yes , it is case-sensetive) and the password is 456. Once you are logged in, you should see several links like "General" "Network" "Sip" and "Lines". click on Lines. under "line 1", you will see the configuration for that line. simply duplicate the entries for lines 2, 3, and 4.

Polycom IP 330 SIP C Will not boot up

This means the phone's SIP application has been erased. You will need to download the SIP app and BootROM from the Polycom support page, host the files on a boot server, and then point the phone to this server from the server menu so the phone will reboot and download the files.

Polycom Soundpoint IP 501 - URL call is disabled

This in it's most basic description means that the phone is unable to register with the SIP server, most likely for lack of internet connectivity or a firewall blocking the packets.

If you've verified connectivity and opened the proper ports and the phone fails to initialize and still getting “URL Call Disabled” or all of the above parameters are correct, update the firmware for the router. This can usually be done within the router configuration. Then reboot in order, the cable modem or DSL, the router or switch, then the phone. This may solve the problem.

If still having the same issue, confirm in the router configuration for settings such as SIP proxy, gateway, or application layer or any configuration setting for SIP or VOIP. If any of these do exist, make sure they are turned off as these may only confuse or adversely affect many implementations.
