Question about Pioneer DVR-810H DVD Recorder

1 Answer

If this is not free as stated, please disregard. If the help is free, please tell me why the dvd player/recorder on my Pioneer 810 w/Tivo suddenly stopped working. When I put either a blank or store purchased prerecorded dvd in I get the error message "invalad format". What can I do to get the dvd working again?

What can I do to fix this problem?

  • jonjan939 Oct 04, 2010

I gave you my credit card number, so tell me what to do to get this fixed.

  • jonjan939 Oct 04, 2010

Nothing will play, I just put in a cleaning disc and get the message "invalad or unsupported disc"

OK, the laser is bad, I assume the whole drive has to be replaced. Are they still available, who makes them and what would be the part number? What are the steps to replace it when I find a new one?

Three days ago I asked you to furnish information on what drive will replace my defective one ( manfacturer, part number, directions for replacement). You have not responded. Why?

Well there is free help, but you elected for paid help. It is quite clear. Free help questions get answered very slowly, many times not at all. If you want to continue with paid help let me know Tim

Are you now willing to pay for the solution? Because if I help you then you go and try to get a refund then that is very unfair to both of us..

It sounds like the laser of the DVD player is either faulty or just dirty. Probably just dirty in this case. You are saying you are trying retail DVD (not recorded ones) and you still get invalid format, correct?

    Thanks

Ok that confirms then that the laser itself is bad, well you did try another disc after running the laser cleaner correct? It definitely wont see the cleaner as a valid disc. But try one now, and if it's still invalid then you have confirmed the laser in the drive has failed.

Yes you need the whole drive but unfortunately it does not appear that they make them any longer. You will be better off just using the other functionality of that device and getting a standalone player. It would be much less expensive than the drive even if you could find it. It's outrageous what they charge for individual parts. You could keep an eye out for a broken one of these units on ebay and buy that (as long as the broken part isnt the dvd player, most of them break on the tivo side...)

    Thanks

I am looking through all the comments and don't see anything like that. I am checking here to see what drive you need, will update within 10 minutes here.

Hi i need to unlock my pioneer DVD player HTZ-121DVD region code

You may have to turn to Pioneer authorized service. They may have a special remote that can accomplish this, but it can cost a bundle. Samsung players are easily turned region-free with the normal remote.

I can't get my tivo to change channels. It stays on the same channel

I believe that you are already on the right path, your tivo will still be assuming that you are running off the cable box plus you watch dancing with the stars for five minutes one time just to see Warren Sapp attempt to dance and now all of a sudden it wants to record every single piece of televison with dance in the title or discription, but I'm not bitter.

Just re-accomplish the set up and let it know that you are no longer running a cable box. Also tell it that ditching you friday night to hang with it's old high school buddies was so not cool.

Are you talking about recording from the list? You might have to set the recorder to record chanel 3. I can't check it because my dvd recorder is broken. I haven't done it in a while, I remember going to list and telling tivo to record to vcr and recording chanel 3, but you can't watch tv till it's finished. If you are talking about a connection try an a/b switch. All I can say is experiment

DVD stuck/jammed in tray

there may be two screws on the top of the tray that holds the rounded magnet, the one that is placed to hold the disc when spinning, remove it, you can then simply take the disc out.
