P35-611 Memory upgrade question

Hi
I am trying to upgrade the memory in my P35-611 from 1 gig to 2 gig. Toshiba tech support teams tell me that this model supports 2 gig ram, but for some reason unknown to me I can only get it to display 1 gig. Both sockets work with 2 512 sticks but when i tryed to install 2 1 gig sticks it only finds one if them
Can anyone tell me what the problem is?
Thanks
Dan

    Hi
I tryed to do what you suggested but I couldnt find anything in the bios to change that would make a difference. If it is to any help, the bios version that i have installed is 1.30. A friend of mine suggested that i update the bios. Do you think that would make a difference?
    Thanks
    Dan

    Hi,
I have been trying to find the bios update for the P35-S611 but all I can come up with is the update for it's sister models. Can you help me locate the one for the P35-S611?
    Thanks

    Hi
Ok I updated the bios but found no change. I am wondering if it would be a glitch or a toshiba error when they keep telling people that it supports 2 gig ram. Its kind of an older laptop and back then there was harldy use for 2 gig. Just a thought.
    Anything else I can try?
    Thanks
    Dan

Hi try going in to your bios at the start when starting your pc up press f2 this should get you in to your main board settings finding the sys on your bios when you go into the bios it should come up with your cpu hard drive and mem installed if you need to reset this to 2 gig if you dont and its reading 2 gig then go to save exet yes to this and reboot your pc this may fix your problem .
this may just be a read problem and it needs to learn that you have a 2 gig mem
if not let me know and we can try another way for you ok
hope this helps ok
all the best

hi you can try to update you bios it will not do any harm as you said toshiba have told you that it dose support 2 gig my laptop is a toshiba and im running vista on mine i also have a 1gig mem and this laptop will support a 2gig mem the only problem with this is toshiba have not tryed a 2gig mem in it to see if it dose work they say it dose but you never know

try a test on your laptop first use only 1 gig run it for a few days give it a few test burning cds or dvds try downloading a few things keep your eye on the speed and timing of what you do then put the other stick in it and do the same cheq the time and speed at the end of your test ok

the reason for all this is it may not show you have a 2 gig mem but your pc may run like it should with a 2 gig mem installed as a few other people have done it shows there is only 1 gig but it runs like it has 2 gig in it this is about all you can do .

let me know how it gose

    all the best to you

hi i think it best to test your laptop like i said for a few days with 1 gig in it then put the full 2gig in and compaire the two performances its ok that toshiba says it will run 2gig but in the past its not to be. most older types of laptops will only support 1gig in some cases you can put the 2gig in but will only register 1gig but it will run at the speed of the 2 gig installed.

cheq the performances over a few days and see what happens ok thats the best thing you can do i think.

let me know in a few days the two ways you have tryed i hope its works .

i shell try to find a reason for this by contacting toshiba my shell for you and asking there tech team for a solution to why this is happening to you ok .

    all the best

I need a guide in order to upgrade the memory of my Toshiba Satellite P205D-S7438. I'm not an expert at all but I already did so on another laptop (another brand too) and I know it is possible for me as...

This is real easy underneath you will see a large flap undo the screws hold it, and remove, you will see the RAM slotted into the socket, simply obtain the correct RAM for your laptop, and slot it in besides, or instead of, replace cover, and reboot, it will automatically be detected and used. If you have done it before then you are on your way to being an expert.. Oh we always say and "X" is an unknown quantity, and a "Spurt" is "Drip" under pressure...Xpert... < Joke.

I have a vgn-b3vp (pcg-5b1m) sony laptop, can i upgrade the memory if it has 512 of none-removable memory and only 1 bank.

Yes, you can use the 1 bank and get higher graded memory, another 512 in the 1 bank would make 1gig, you can probable get as much as 2 gig in the bank to make a total of 2.5 gigs by buying a 2 gig memory stick.

The problem must be the amount of total memory. Maybe the board supports only 1 gig. Chek the manual.

Upgrading acer laptop RAM

Hi,
You Can Actually Upgrade This To 2 Gig Memory.
Each Slot Will Take 1 A Gig Strip.
I,d suggest Buying another 256 mb Strip, To Put Into Slot 2.
Or Buy a 512mb ( Half Gig ) Which Will Give you 750mb With your Existing Strip Already In There. ** Recommend 1 Gigabyte Max** 2 gig of Ram in This Baby Would Probably Start Glowing.
You Can Buy DDR/266/333 In 256/512/1 Gig Strips. These Are Commonly Known As SD-RAM-Modules.

Memory/Graphic problem

This might have something to do with DVMT or Digital Video Memory Technology. Basically, the amount of video memory is dependent on the amount of memory installed. I'm not very familiar with acer system BIOS but try to look for VIDEO under system BIOS and try to select any fixed video memory if possible. you can also try to disable DVMT.
