Question about Roper Washing Machines

1 Answer

My Roper TAWS800JQ1 will not operate while lid is down. I have to manually stick something into the hole where lid stick goes in order for the washer to rinse and spin. Are there any solutions besides a appliance repair man?

Try gluing (with epoxy) an extension to the lid switch actuator. The other option is to remove the cabinet top and replace the switch. Unplug the power before doing this. Hope this helps!

Where is the master switch for washer roper 3954246?

Check the lid switch for proper operation, most likely it has failed. Watch the video, then mark me down as helpful. I believe I told you this in another question, but the number you provided is a control board number, not the model number of the machine. Either way, it's made out of whirlpool parts.

Spin cycle

open and close the lid a few inches,do you hear a clicking sound,if not you have a broken lid switch, stick a screw driver into the top hole on the right side and push down, does it click,if it does click with the screw driver, set the timer to spin and then push down on the switch again,if it drains and spins you have a bad lid switch part number 3949247 watch video

if lid switch is good check the pump,if it doesn't drain

WASHING MACHINE stopped in mid-cycle

if it stops at the drain and spin cycle check the lid switch, open the lid,set the washer to spin cycle and pull out the timer knob, stick a screw driver into the hole where the strike from the lid goes into and push down,if you don't hear a clicking sound when you push down on the switch in the hole then you have a bad lid switch but if your machine does run sometime it sounds like the switch will work if you push down on it,could be cracked where the screws go into it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5aW9WkTFhE watch video on how to replace it.if you do hear a clicking sound when you open and close the lid or push down with the screw driver you could have a bad timer but check the lid switch first

Water shuts off as though lid is not closed

if you look on the lid there is a tab that when you close the door, it goes down into a hole and in this hole is a switch. either the tab is broke or the switch is bad.

good luck

My washer will not wash or spin, when i turn it on th ewaer runs in but it won't spinout.

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description it sounds like you`ll need to replace the lid switch, but first...

Here`s how you can check it pretty easily...

( this is based on the most common Whirlpool, Estate, Kitchen-Aid, Roper, Kenmore, Inglis top-load washer, not necessarily applicable to ALL...especially those built in the past 1-2yrs. the model number would distinguish if it applies to your particular model )

Lift the lid, if you observe the underside of the lid there will be a plastic "strike" or "actuator" that goes into a hole when the lid is closed.

Check the hole where the actuator goes into the cabinet and insure you can see a gray oval shaped piece. If so take a small screw-driver, pen/pencil or something small enough to fit thru the small hole and try activating the switch by pushing it down ( machine must be in the agitate or spin cycle ). If you don't see it, the switch has likely broken loose and needs to be replaced.

If it start's to function than the switch is not being contacted properly by the actuator on the lid and likely is due to the switch being worn...unless the actuator on the lid is broke, if so there`s the problem.

Make sure the switch is being held in place via the two screws along the side, if they are loose tighten them, if it is broken, it will need to be replaced.

Here`s a helpful link for changing it out,

Did you check the lid switch? continuity would tell you, simply remove the two screws for the top (timer consol) phillips screws . then you will see a white plug on the cabinet disconnect it then shut the lid or stick a pen/ or something to activate lid switch stick your ohm meter in the 2 end holes, make sure you have no electricity and check with continuity.here is the lid switch for your model

Washer will not start

It sounds like the lid switch may be bad or have come loose. Open the lid and there should be a thing on the underside that pokes into the washer when you close it. At the place where it pokes into the washer you should see the top of the lid switch and it should be flush with the washer body. Stick a screwdriver into that hole to push down the switch and it should click. Pull the screwdriver out and it should click again. If it does click then close the lid slowly and listen closely near the switch to see if you still hear the clicking.

If you don't hear the clicking, then you will have to change the lid switch (usually costs about 30-50 dollars) or just bypass it. If you do bypass it, be careful. It will still spin even with the lid open and can be dangerous.
