Question about Miele Ovens

Wont get temps in surround setting. Top heat and max broil seem ok

    I have a Miele h350b wall oven. I don't seem to be getting full power from the lower element. I've seen in other postings that sometimes the unit is not wired correctly at installation. I just bought the house and don't know if it ever worked correctly as it appears the oven was hardly used. Any ideas?

Your problem is not related with the possibility of not wired correctly at installation. Since in this case you should have more serious problems, like short circuit, burned elements.

In your case your last sentence "it appears the oven was hardly used" have more sense since the element if it was hardly used then it cannot give the maximum power. In many case this will be recover by the continued use of the specific element. Just use the oven for couple of weeks the element will become more bright red day by day. I don't advice you to do anything with your oven unless you see any serious abnormal in its operation. Don't forget that your oven is a MIELE which mean that you can rely on it and give it some time to prove it to you.

It is quite difficult to say what exactly is causing this, it could be a fault temperature control knob, but most likely it is the control unit for the whole stove. This is basically the "brain" for the stove. It could even be the thermostat not engaging correctly, but that is unlikely in my opinion.
The unfortunate part is though that you won't be able to know which it is without trying the part and seeing if it corrects it, so it may be more cost effective to hire a repair person to come and do the testing for you, as they will have to pay for the parts and of course will only charge you for the actual part they replace. Problems such as yours are really buggers because there is no way to pin-point it to one particular part...
I am very sorry about that, but if you want to try doing it yourself just make sure you buy the parts from someone / somewhere that will allow you to return them. Start with the temperature control knob, then the control unit of the stove, and between those two I am quite certain you will have your solution.

You're actually referring to the "broiler" elements. Most electric ovens have these at the top of the main oven space. (Some gas ovens are set up the same way, but many put the broiler elements in a bottom drawer.)

As their name implies, broiler elements are active only when you're broiling. They will not go on for baking.

Broiling is the process of cooking food by exposing it directly to a high heat source at close range. To broil a steak, for example, you would place the pan holding the steak on an oven rack raised to the top or next to top position in the oven (consult the manual) and set the oven to broil. The top elements will then turn on and cook the meat by direct radiation.

Most people, however, use ovens for baking far more often than for broiling. Baking is the process of cooking food (cakes, casseroles, roasts etc) by indirect heat. In other words you raise the oven to a certain temperature, put the food on a rack more in the middle of the oven, and let the surrounding heat cook it over time. When you bake the top broiler elements usually don't come on at all.

is the heating element that is found at the top of the oven and produces a very high heat for broiling. If the broil element isn't working, you should first do a visual inspection for signs that the element has blistered or separated. If the element appears normal then you can check for continuity with a multi-meter. Remove power from the appliance before performing this test. Remove the back panel and locate the terminals for the broil element and inspect the terminals and wires for signs of overheating or damage.

If there is no continuity then the element will need to be replaced. If the wires are damaged then they will need to be repaired. If the element is ok then you will need to check the broil circuit to determine the cause. This involves live voltage checks and should only be performed by qualified persons. Components to check include fuses, if the range is equipped, and oven control thermostat or electronic control.

GE Oven is not heating to full temperature.. Also heating up real slow

First you need to check whether you are getting full 220 volts + to the oven. Some oven controls have adjustable knobs where can be fine tuned. The temperature can be calibrated by 25 degrees but not any 200 degrees. I think these can get you may be up to 75 degrees max. It seems like your sensing bulb is mounted right your oven control which has the sensing bulb attached could very well be shot. Also check if the elements work? Does the broil get red when set on broil; does the bake get red when set on bake? If yes the wiring should be ok and possibly/probably is a bad oven temp control. If the elements do not get red, that would have to be investigated (burnt wire, bad selector switch, bad oven control, burnt wire. Turn on the oven with the meter connected. It should show full voltage when you first turn it on and the thermostat will turn it on and off.

If the sensor inside the ovens baking compartment is not damaged, touching any metal part, bent, pitted, no foil is used on the racks or lower plate, in an attempt to keep ovens internal clean, etc, then temp sensor is likely defective. Which means the ECR (control unit) will need to be replaced.

The heating element becomes red hot,but the food doesn't appear to cook in an appropriate time os fashion. Any answers or suggestions


The top of whatever food you're cooking should be in the center of the oven for the most effective cooking. Do you have the oven set on bake or broil? Broil is a direct heat method and if the food is on the lower shelf and the oven is set on broil, the food is not getting enough heat to cook it properly. Baking heats the lower element and the heat rises to surround the food. Broiling heats the top element and since heat rises, it is not getting down to the food to surround it and cook it.

Old kenmore built in oven wont unlock


When I turn on my Maytag performa using the "bake" function, everything looks ok on the display, however the temp. never rises above 100. I've tried "bake" and "convect", and neither one work. "Clean" doesn't work either. The oven will lock, and display shows that it's heating up, but temp. never rises.
However....."broil" feature works just fine.
Please help.

My oven is burning my baked goods, but shows the right temp with a thermometer. Do I have to turn the dial to broil and then back to the desired temp? Even if the rack is in the middle, everything burns....


If it is convection bake you have to turn the temp down (25 degrees or so) that is listed in the recipe.

The broil setting is not used to bake because it operates differently from the bake setting. So, don't go to the broil setting at all.
The element for bake is under the floor of the oven. You have not indicated whether it is gas or electric, but both of these can have issues with the burner or element.

If you are baking on the correct setting and the oven is heating from the bottom, not the top, this can be caused by hot spots that are created by elements/burners.

to check, look under the floor of the oven. Turn the bake heat up to high and see if the flame is uneven. For an electric oven, the color of the element should be evenly red, no brown spots.

If you are using an oven thermometer, move the thermometer to the spot in the oven that seems to be burning things the most.

When the food you're baking is done on top but not on the bottom--or when baking just takes far too long to finish--the bake element may be burned out.

You may get fooled into thinking it's working, because the oven is hot inside. But many electric ovens use the broil element, too, during the preheat and bake cycles. So the food may be getting heated only by the broil element, which causes poor baking results.

If the bake element is burned out, replacing it should solve the problem. Otherwise, you need to further troubleshoot the oven's electrical system to locate the defective wire or component.

Glass top and oven 7 months old still has the new oven smell


possible that the insulation that surrounds your oven cavity has yet to fully cure, i would run a clean mode, this will get the unit to max temp fro 3 hours, fully curing any insulaton for sure
