Question about Motion Computing MOTION LE1600 Notebook

4 Answers

I have just got a 'new' (never used) Motion Computing LE 1600. The pen won't calibrate (way off). The USB mouse works just fine. I have tried calibrating several times. I have installed the latest bios from MC web site. I have searched all over the MC site and the internet. Any suggestions? Is it a driver issue?

I have already run the recalibration app several times. To no avail. The pen point and the cursor are up to 1.5 inches off. The gap is small at the bottom of the screen (toward the nav buttons) and largest the top of the screen. I have used the 1400 for a couple of years already so I am certain it is the unit (LE1600 touch screen) rather than user error.

I have tried the recalibration app several times with no changes. The recalibration app seems like it isn't working either... doesn't wait for my input - only appears at the four corners of the screen.

I do have "Motion Operating System Recovery CD" and "Motion Drivers and Utilities Recovery CD"

  • Rebecca Davenport Oct 03, 2010

My operating system is Windows XP (tablet version). I have the original recovery CD's
"Motion Operating System" and "Motion Drivers and Utilities". I have not re-installed them... I suppose that is the next step?

Is there a driver for the pen?

Run the disc and make sure the touchscreen is clean, if something is pressing on the screen it might register off point.

It sounds more like an issue with the pen itself, are you certain it was calibrated recently and worked?
Thanks Tim

The best way to get out of that trouble is to uninstall all CS applications and re-install the one you would like to use. CS5 came with alot of new features and in a way, upgrading CS1 to CS5 would surely give you a bit of a headache.

Tried the same thing and got the same result using the motion computing DVD/CD external reader/burner.

Has anyone found an answer to this problem of trying to switch to a larger hard drive on the 1600 with format/installing? The new hard drive was not able to read the recovery disk with OS on it.
Thanks.

As far as I am aware windows 7 has not been confirmed for tablets or win CE platform type devices

Check you manuals and any Cd's that came with the 1600 and see if there is some form of reset or original system restore ability.

Microsoft has a win7 compatibility check utility anyone wishing to try win 7 on these types of device is recommended to use that first to identify potential issues.

Problem with extended battery

LED indicator for your laptop model
Steady Blue = Battery charged and AC adapter plugged in
Amber = Battery charging and AC adapter plugged in
Slow Amber Flash = <10% battery life
Fast amber flash = 3% remaining TPC will automatically go into hibernate
Slow flashing amber Adapter plugged in = Overheat condition

Do you have a multimeter to test the battery that you are using? check the output current of the battery.

Install new os on motion le 1600

You can use an external USB drive, either CD or DVD dependent on your OS media.

I used a Phillips drive, with external power supply, to restore to factory settings using their restore CDs. I also installed Windows Vista Ultimate from DVD, without issues :)

Pen Problem

First try updating to SP2 and then get the latest Windows Updates from Microsoft.com.

If that doesn't fix it, here are some Win2000 drivers for your laptop.

If that doesn't fix it, try these Wacom drivers.
