I have several phones in my home that has a window for caller ID and it informs me when someone is calling when I am talking on the phone. I was on my 9516 when I got a beeping sound informing me that someone was trying to call me but I didn't get the visual as to who it was on my display. Is there an option that I have to set? I would like some help with this please. Thank you.
The 9516 is not a visual call waiting (VCW) phone..meaning that you will not be able to view the name and number of the second caller. You must purchase an external call display box (arround $10) , but make sure this is VCW capable.

First of all, thank you very much Celeste for choosing FIXYA today for your online technical support needs. The specific feature where you can see the CALLER ID information about the second incoming call is normally called VISUAL CALL WAITING.
Often times this is a separate service offered by the local phone company. This service usually costs extra on top of the normal CALLER ID service fee and may not even be available in your area.
You will have to contact your local phone service provider to see if they offer this type of service in your particular area and how much it would cost to activate it.
I truly hope that was helpful to you.
Good luck and take care.

The Speakerphone features three one-touch memory buttons and a 9-number speed dial. Caller ID information is sent after the first full ring. If the call is answered too soon, the caller ID information may not have been sent yet. Some of the many and varied networks do not send caller ID information. In this case you may notice that caller ID is missing only on calls from certain callers. Occasionally bad data is sent, causing your phone to reject it.
Adding call waiting as a feature to your telephone can help you take
calls that you are waiting for without having to stay off the phone
until that important call comes in. With call waiting, you get a beep
when you are on another call to let you know that another call is
coming in. If you want to take the call, you follow the simple steps
outlined in this article.
call waiting from your phone provider if you do not already have it.
Cal waiting works best with caller ID features that give you the phone
number and name of the person calling you. Phone numbers that have
blocked numbers or use *67 to mask their caller ID will not show up on
a call when your phone rings. While you are talking on the phone and
hear a beep, you are receiving another phone call. Using your caller ID
function, whether it's on your answering machine or on your handset for
the telephone, see who is calling you. If you want to talk to them,
quickly press your "talk" button to put the other call on hold or
disconnect. Press "talk" again to take the incoming call.
the other phone call if you do not want to terminate the call you are
on. The new call coming in may go to your answering machine. Or if you
have the call back feature on your telephone, you can simply call *69.
Your phone will dial the number of the person whose call you just
call waiting as politely as you can. You might tell someone who you are
talking to that you are expecting an important call and may have to
terminate the call abruptly. Call waiting calls should be answered as
quickly as you can. After four rings, most phone calls go right to the
machine or people hang up. Promise to call your first caller back if
you have to interrupt the call
This is the info from the users manual, it seems a bit strange, but claims if you set the number of rings before it answers, (for the answering system) to "2" it will stop the audible caller ID. Here it is from the manual.
If you turn on the answering system and set the number of rings “2” (page 38), the unit does not announce the caller information. If “Toll saver” is selected and there is a new message, the unit does not announce the caller information. When you receive a call while on the phone, the 2nd caller’s name is not announced even if you subscribe to both Caller ID and Call Waiting with Caller ID services
The Meridian 9516 is not a visual call waiting (VCW) phone...meaning that you will not see the caller name and number of the second caller when you are on the line..you must purchase a separate call display box (around $10) if you can still find them., but make sure that box is visual call display capable.
Some phones are not equiped to pick up call waiting caller id. check the box or look up your model number on the uniden site. The call waiting caller id only shows up on the phone that is in use at the time of the call.
