Your problem is that you have purchased an incompatible memory card.

You have an SDHC card, but your camera only accepts SD cards (exactly the same shape, but different internal hardware) up to a maximum 1GB capacity. There is no way to update your camera to the later SDHC standard as it simply lacks the correct hardware to format them correctly, although devices designed to accept SDHC cards can use the earlier SD cards.

You only have two solutions: replace the camera to match the SDHC card, or buy the correct capacity SD card for your camera. In practice, I strongly advise that you go no higher than 512MB as the s500 was happy with some brands of 1GB cards and not with others. This is not a unique problem to Samsung: when your camera was designed 1GB cards simply didn't exist and so hardware compatibility testing was not possible.

I hope you manage to use this information to solve your problem. Please take a moment to rate the free answer I have provided for you and any testimonial which you might wish to add is always welcome!

I have smasung digimax 4010, I have a 4gb memory card and when I put it in, the light flashes continuously and the Samsung logo is on the screen but thats all. What do I need to do???

You need to get an SD card. The 4010 works with SD and MMC cards. Your 4GB card is an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot it's electronically incompatible and will not work in the 4010. You need an SD card, 2GB and smaller.

The A402 works with MMC and SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible. You need to use cards 2GB and smaller.

Unfortunately, you can't. The D53 works with MMC and SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. Since this is a hardware issue, it is not something that can be changed with a firmware update. You need to use cards 2GB and smaller.

HC stands for high capacity meaning 4g or more. Your camera manual should tell you if you can use the card. Maybe all you need to do is make sure the slide switch on the side of the card is unlocked and then you should format the card in the camera.

Hi,just bought a 4gb sd card for my digimax s600 but it won,t work.when i switch on camera, screen says..format..yes.confirm ok.when i do this i get check sd card . i put in old card it works fine??..

Does your camera support SD HC? Anything above a 2gb SD card is concider a HC; so if your camera can't support HC format then you can not use that card.
