Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher: Lock On Button Issue

Hello, I own a Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher model 665. The Lock On light continues to flash red. I reviewed the manual following the instructions of the NO HEAT DRY 'lock button' to hold for 4 seconds to Unlock but this has not worked. The Lock On Light continues to flash red and I'm unable to start a wash cycle. I checked the fuse and all is good. Can anyone advise if your dishwasher has had this issue and how you resolved? Thank you!

    Hi,

    Same problem here.

There is no "air dry" button. I held the no heat dry button till my finger hurt, but that didn't work.

My "lock on" button continues to flash. Will not run while flashing.

I'm having the same problem. The lock on light is flashing. I hold the "no heat dry" button but nothing happens. No other buttons work. Did anyone find a solution?

I have the same problem.  I think the company rigs it that at a certain date it just quits and then you are force to have them come fix it.  I have held the button down for forever and it will not release it.  ANYBODY ELSE NO WHAT TO DO OR HAVE HAD SOMEONE LOOK AT IT?

same problem! All of a sudden the "lock on: is flashing & holding the no heat button does nothing - still flashing! Also tried turning off power to dishwasher with no success. HELP!

I have the same problem with "Lock On button". Never used the "No Heat Dry button", so I know it is not worn out from pressing it. Tried all the fixes. Ordered new Electronic Control from Sears Parts. If it doesn't fix the problem, you can return within 90 days and get refund, less the shipping charge. Total cost is $133 which includes $16 for shipping. If this doesn't fix the problem, I will try the Console Assembly, which includes the overlay keypad. It is another $130. If that doesn't work, or if it takes both parts for it to fix the problem, I will return the parts and just buy another dishwasher. Will let you know if either fixes the problem.

Had this issue with our Ultra Wash Dishwasher. We've had it 12 years with no problems. Tried the holding different buttons for 4-6 seconds and sequential buttons with no results. Tried cutting power off and then on. No luck.

A solution on another site gave me the idea to disassemble the inside panel of the door (three screws on the sides and 2 at the latch) to lift it from the front, then lifted the black cover off (trigger points at left and right sides) the electrical area to access the door latch assembly. I jiggled that loose from the door to take a look and it was a bit sticky. Instead of using an air compressor, I dipped a soft bristle toothbrush in rubbing alcohol and liberally cleaned all moving parts and crevices. Hold it over a dish to catch the drips. I wiped it dry with a paper towel real good, blew a little over it to help evaporate the alcohol, then began to put it all back together.

As I was assembling it back, I took notice of how (at the top center on the box side) the metal tab will slide up the black plastic bit and snap down to engage the mechanism (white plastic) that pops the handle as you close the door. It is entirely possible that the tension was not enough to snap it far enough down. I adjusted the tab ever so slightly down. We waited a little longer before restoring the power, just to be certain it was completely dry. I am happy to report the light was no longer flashing! I am running a load of dishes as I am writing this note! Good Luck!!!

Have to hold the Air Dry button down til your finger hurts. Release button and the light will go off. The "4 second press" in the manual is incorrect!

Kenmore Ultra Wash 665 dishwasher: start button not lighing

It sounds like you have a bad control console, and the problem is that your START button (the most critical one!) is bad. You can't replace just that button or key; you have to replace the entire control console.

Kenmore dishwasher ultra was quiet guard 3 model 56516012403 control panel will not activate red lights blinking on normal wash and cancel drain. did the hold the heat dry button then the normal wash...

that would be model # 66516012403 correct??
you may have inadvertently set the lock on function..
check this out from your manual...

Lock On
Use the Lock On to prevent unintended use of the dishwasher
between cycles. You can also use the lock feature to prevent
unintended cycle or option changes during a cycle.
When LOCK ON is lit, all buttons are disabled.
NOTE: The dishwasher door can be opened while the controls
are locked. However, the lock must be turned off and the Start/
Resume button pressed to resume the cycle.
To turn on the Lock
Press and hold HEATED DRY for 4 seconds. LOCK ON glows.
If you press any pad while your dishwasher is locked, the light
flashes 3 times.
NOTE: If the Heated Dry option is selected, the light will
temporarily turn off until Lock On glows.
To turn off the Lock
Press and hold HEATED DRY for 4 seconds. The light turns off.

hope this helps,
best of luck,
ttfn

there is no real way of checking the keypad. Not with a meter but if you push normal wash for example and it does not respond this usually means that you have a bad keypad
