Why the Dishwasher Won't Drain?

In this section, we are trying to figure out all the possible causes behind the problem. We are also providing you with some solution to fix each one of those problems:

Reason#1: The most common reason behind improper draining of dishwasher is clogging of the household drain under the kitchen sink. Observe the dishwasher carefully while it is draining. If you find that water bubbles are coming up into the sink, then it is likely that the problem lies with the drain pipe and not the machine. Detach the drain pipe from the kitchen sink and clear out all the debris that are causing the clogging and reattach it. Also check the pipe that connects the dishwasher and the sink and remove if there is any trash left. Know more on unclog kitchen sink.

Reason#2: If the door latch of the dishwasher is not working properly, then the door cannot be closed and the dishwasher is not going to drain the water fully. Check out if the latch has become loose or gone out of alignment. In such cases, tightening the bolts of the latch will help in fixing the problem.

Reason#3: Accumulation of food particles in the dishwasher basket can prevent the water from flowing out of the drain. In that case, you have to disassemble the dishwasher basket and clean all its parts thoroughly to get rid of the gunk matter. Then reassemble the basket and you will find the drain is cleared. You can do this repair work on your own if you have some knowledge about the dishwasher parts. Take the help of user's manual provided by the manufacturer to find out the right technique to open the basket of the specific model that you have.

Reason#4: A new garbage disposal device can be responsible for this kind of trouble. This will happen if you have recently installed a garbage disposal and have not removed the knock out plug from it, then the dishwasher won't drain water. Once you remove the plug, it will ensure that the water from the dishwasher goes directly into the disposal for draining. Clogged garbage disposal can also trigger this type of trouble. Running the garbage disposal with plenty of hot water can clear such obstructions.

Other Reasons: In case all the above mentioned techniques fail to show desired results, then the defect could be something more serious and is related to some of the other parts of the dishwasher. Problems related to the drain valve, timer, belt, pump or motor and may require replacement with a new one. The part to be replaced has to be chosen very carefully and it should be right for the specific model that you have. It is better if you do not try to fix such things on your own and consult a repair professional who have the skills to handle these problems more effectively. You may even land up in trouble with the warranty of the appliance if you install any wrong part in your model. Know more ondishwasher not draining.

Now you are aware of the factors for which the dishwasher won't drain. After the troubleshooting, run some hot water thought the garbage disposal to clear any residue of dirt and grease from the pipes. Then start running the dishwasher. You can prevent such problems in future by running some vinegar through the dishwasher once or twice a month. If you live in an area where you get hard water, then clean the sink drain with a drain cleaner to keep it free from mineral deposits.

Maytag clothes washer Model LAT6910AAW. leaks at the last cycle when the rinse water is drained. it may be the drain pump, except it doesn't leak when the wash water is drained (2nd cycle)

If your machine has a tray that you put softener in, softener is the last thing added at rinse time. If it is plugged or has a leaking supply hose, this would cause water paddles and appear to be related to the drain cycle.

Cycle has stopped 31 mins from end and has lit up check water. No blockage and this should be the drying cycle. Is this a repairable problem or not as it is old?

On many older machines, there was only one water pump. During the wash and rinse cycles, the pump would cause the water to spray the inside of the cabinet. At the end of the cycle a solenoid would open a valve and the pump would then cause the water to be sent to the drain. There are a couple of ways to check for this. Ordinarily, you would hear a knock or thump when the solenoid operates. Another way to tell is if you still have a lot of food particles during the rinse cycle - particles that should have been drained out at the end of the wash cycle.

Some solenoids were not particularly expensive and are fairly easy to replace. If you post your make and model number, I can get more information for you.

Oko 72630. Why is it stuck on rinse cycle?

Could be several reasons:
- Selected the "Night cycle" program (means standing with the drum full of water, reason: too much noise in the spin cycle)
- Set to the "Rinse hold" (means standing with the drum full of water, reason: wrinkles on the clothes)

According to your description I think that this is not a failure otherwise error E20 will be appears on display.

Once the washing programme has come to an end, END illuminates on the programme progress display.
If RINSE HOLD was selected, the display beside the START/ PAUSE button flashes.
1. After a rinse hold, the water must first be pumped out:
- Either press the START/PAUSE button (the water is pumped out and the washing is spun according to the completed programme;
After the START/PAUSE button is pressed again, the spin speed can still also be changed during spinning), or
- Turn the programme selector to PUMP OUT and press the START/PAUSE button (the water is pumped out without spinning),or
- Turn the programme selector to SPIN or SHORT SPIN and press theSTART/PAUSE button (the water is pumped out and the washing is spun or gently spun).
At the end of this programme step, the END indicator will illuminate.
2. Open the door.
As soon as the DOOR indicator lights up green, the door can be opened.

Water wont pump out at end of cycle

it would be helpful to have the full model number of the dishwasher.

do you get any lights flashing? how do you know it is end of cycle? could be still in wash and not got to rinse at all. Do you hear the drain motor running?

Try with a shorter cycle like simple rinse only and see if it drains the water.

I am assuming you have checked the filters are clean and there is no blockage in the kitchen drain.

Machine will not spin or drain water.

I have a problem with my MW512AU. Sometimes it drains after wash cycle, but sometimes it sticks when it goes to spin, doesn't get up to speed, water comes on for about 10 seconds and shuts off, and it tries to spin again. If I hit the wash progress switch it goes directly to final spin and works ok. I then have to run a 2nd wash cycle to rinse the clothes. I also noticed a buzzing sound when I turn on the power point, which lasts about 3 seconds before stopping. It will come back on every 3-4 minutes for 30 seconds. This is with the machine power switch off. It powers on normally.
