Question about Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD Recorder

1 Answer

Difficulty recording and playback

From reading previous correspondents' queries I think my DMR-E50 may need its lens cleaning (it has started exhibiting problems in record and playback). It is almost 5 years old and never had the lens cleaned. The manual says to clean it every 4 months or so but nowhere does it say how to access the lens. Could you advise me please?

I presume you hade cleaned the discs and the players optical lense before posting this request and also tried them on another player?

Basicaly If they do not work on other players then the discs have now failed for some reason: many budget priced discs I have come across only work for a few years.

If you have a 'spindle problem' then your laser is probably slowly moving off track. If so you should be able to record and then playback on a GOOD disc for a while.

Hi Leah,

Good description and good job in narrowing down the problem. The lens is the remaining common denominator.

You need to get a CD/DVD lens cleaner. It should have a disk and a bottle of cleaning solution. They are available in the electronics dept of most chain stores.

A couple drops of cleaning solution on the feathery cleaning element attached to the disk, insert the disk into the machine and hit play. Takes just a couple seconds.

Best regards
Mike

Will my non finalzied discs play on a panasonic ez 28 or ex 768

You will have no problem playing your non finalized discs on any of the Panasonic DMR range including the DMR EZ28 series. The DMR E55 can also easily be repaired if you can use a soldering iron and a little care. Please checkout my other postings for full repair details.
