Question about Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JD 250 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

The drive does not appear on My Computer, thus I can't access the files. The computer does recognise it on Computer Management, and the latest driver is installed. In Device Properties under the General tab, it says the device is working properly.

One bad/faulty lead can cause a computer with lots of problems
replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
hope this helps

No assigned letter

Dear Bev,

Disk zero would be your internal drive and you do not want to be messing about with that.

Right click on My Computer
Select manage
Select Disk Management
Identify the (correct) disk
Right click on this disk and select Mark Partition as Active
If already active select the option to assign a drive letter.

If you are saying you have already done this and these options are blanked out then it looks like your hard drive "box" is being recognised but not the drive itself which may be a drive problem. If they supplied a CD, please run it to see if it installs any drivers.

Iomega portable hard drives connect to your computer through a USB port. When you connect the Iomega hard drive to your computer, it should pop up as an icon in your My Computer folder. If you can't find the icon in your My Computer folder then you probably need to update the driver for the device. Updating this driver is not very hard and can be done automatically from the Windows Device Manager.

Plug your Iomega hard drive into one of your computer's USB port. Click the "Start" button and go to the "Run" field. Type "Devmgmt.msc" into the Run box and press the "Enter" key. Go down to the bottom of the device manager to the "Universal Serial Bus Controller." Click on the little + (plus) sign to expand it. Look for an entry with a yellow exclamation point and click on it. Click the "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" button and then click the "Next" button. Click the "Finish" button when the installation has finished. Go to the "My Computer" folder from your "Start" menu and locate the Iomega hard drive icon. Double click the icon to gain access to the external hard drive. Hope it helps.

Computer does not recognise canon SX40HS

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

If this is windows you may need to go to disk management and enable the drive or format it. Unless it is formatted windows will not assign a drive letter to it.

to do so go to control panel/administrative tools/computer management

once computer management is up find disk management, inside you will find all the drives that are connected to your computer, you should find a 80gb drive that may or may not have a partition. if it does not right click on it and say format or enable.

If you have any trouble let me know.

My drive showing removable disk in the my computer.but can't acess anything.also nt able to format my drive.

Remove the USB flash drive from the USB port on your computer. Restart the computer and wait for the operating system to finish loading. Plug the flash drive back into the USB port and attempt to access it again in case the computer stopped recognizing the drive for some reason.

Transfer any files on the flash drive to the hard drive of your computer if the USB flash drive has any functionality at all.

Open the Start menu by clicking on the Windows icon on the bottom tool bar. Click on the "Control Panel" link. Scroll down through the list of available options and click on the icon labeled "Administrative Tools" that has an image of a box filled with check marks.

Find the Computer Management icon at the top of the window and click on it. Wait for a new window to appear on the screen and click on the "Continue" button to bring up the Computer Management window.

Locate the "Storage" entry on the left side of the Computer Management window. Click on the black box next to the entry to expand the menu. Click on the "Disk Management" icon that appears below the Storage entry.

Right-click the name of the the USB flash drive that appears at the center of the window. Click on the option labeled as "Format..." from the menu that will pop up. Select the "FAT16" option from the first drop-down menu and click on "Start" to format the flash drive.

Return to the Control Panel and click on the "Device Manager" icon. Scroll down to the entry labeled as "Universal Serial Bus Controllers." Right-click on the entry for your USB drive and choose "Update Driver." Wait for the latest USB driver to finish downloading and then attempt to use the flash drive again.

Pnp drivers not found for Windows Vista!!!

Hi, you might need to partition & format the drive. Its pretty easy. Just get into control panel (classic view), open administrator tools, and computer management. in the computer management window, there will be a "tree view" on the left, you should see disk management. Once you are in the "disk management" section, you should see your external drive there, and can partition/format it by right clicking on it. Most external drives should come preformatted, and if it doesnt appear in the disk management section it may need some sort of driver disk or oem software.
