You will have to check the cord, switch or the motor to see whch has gone bad. There also is a thermo protector on the motor, if it opened up, then the motor won't start.

It has likely overheated. Let it cool down and see if it comes back on. If so that means something is causing an airflow restriction. Replace filters and check for clogs
The correct belt is # 38528034 ( package # 40201200 ) This belt may seem loose when it is installed, because there is an "idler bearing" that pushes down on it when the handle is released and dropped back.
If it gets too hot it will shut down for about an hour...it does that to protect the motor. A lot of tools and work appliances seem to have that feature nowadays.
Our Hoover U5780-900 stopped working while using the attachment. We let it cool down for about 5 minutes and it fired back up. It appears to shut down when it overheats.
Go to hoover.com, scroll down to downloads, enter your model number which is located on the metal tag either on the back or bottom. If it is available you will be able to download it.
