The hard drive has the white light flashing after start up. My labtop does not recognize the connection from the wb hardrive to the the computer. I have tried to reconnect the usb and power cord several times with no success. Is there anything that can be done or am I out of luck with a broken hard drive.

Unless your hard rive is making beeoing noises or loud clicking, it likely not damagaed at all. Not knowing you Operating System makes advice a litle tricky for what I suggest so let's just try a geYour drive should appear no in the neric approach

1, In the Control Panel in all versions of Windows is a choice called "Adminstrative Tools". Find that and get there
2. Once there, you should see a left panel in the window where you can locate "Disk Management" (your external hard drive needs to be connected)
3.Your drive should now appear in the center panel of the window
4. If you're not picky about saving what's on right click on it and then click Format. It will be newly formatted and clean wiped for storage.
5. If you need to save files then you need to rename the Drive Letter so you puter will see it in "Compuer" or "My Computer"
6. If these simple steps don't solve your dilema, you need to Google the issue and study it further to make good decisions.
7. These are considered "Advanced User" computer actions so please be patient and make sure you understand your actions before you take them.

Acer Aspire one 722 windows 7 netbook. "Check cable connection" and "no bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key" are two common things appearing. The computer recognized hardrive, hardr

Hello, it looks like somehow the master boot record was erased from the hard drive, maybe viral? You mentioned the hard drive was recognized in the bios correct? If you need data from the hard drive the easiest way would be to pull the hard drive out and use an external hard drive enclosure to remove the data before you erase everything from the hard drive. If you dont need anything thing you can proceed to do a new install of Windows 7. Turn the computer on then hold alt and the f10 key to perform a factory recovery. This will erase everything and reinstall Windows 7. If this doesnt work then you will need a new hard drive and a bootable usb drive with Windows 7 on it. Hope this helps.

Computer won't recognize external usb hard drive

try it on another computer if that dosent work you should
reformat your computer but first backup all your data by putting your another internal hardrive on your computer and move all your files you need to the empty hardrive and after that take the hardrive with all your stuff in it off the computer and then reformat the hardrive which the external hardrive does not work on and install a new operating system then put the other hardrive with all your stuff back on your computer and transfer your stuff into the hardrive with a operating system then try the external hardrive

OR
you can burn all your stuff into a CD or a DVD
OR
you can put all your stuff into FlashDrives and then after you reformat the hardrive with an operating system put your stuff back into the computer and after that the external hardrive should work

External hardrive not recognized

Try a different cable between the computer and the drive.

Disassemble the casing, and remove the "internal" disk-drive.
If the USB-to-disk-drive adapter has "died", it's possible that the
disk-drive itself is intact, and your data will be intact.

Connect the "internal" disk-drive as a "slave" drive in a desktop computer, and see if it can be detected.

If it's dead, and it's still under warranty, then exercise the warranty.

Try taking the drive out of the enclosure and buying a usb adaoter that will fir the interface the hard drive has...either EIDE or SATA, then hook that up to a usb port and see if the computer will load it. May be the controller card in the enclosure is your problem.
