Hello. The water-inlet valve lets water enter the machine. If this valve is defective, you need to completely replace it. It's usually located behind the lower access panel on the left or right side. It's the device with the main water line (usually copper) from the house, a rubber tube to the dishwasher, and two wires attached to it. It could also be the Float switch: The float switch is a small electrical switch that's located right below the dishwasher "floor." Above the switch, on the inside of the dishwasher, is a plastic cylinder that floats up as water fills the dishwasher. If this switch is defective, or if the plastic float gets caught or trapped in the raised position, the water can't enter the dishwasher. If the float switch is defective, you need to replace it.

The dishwasher runs through it's cycle but does not clean the dishes properly and leaves a cloudy film and smears on the inside of the machine and the dishes

    Common Problem
  1. Confirm the wash water is hot
    1. Try heated wash(sani wash) if available
    2. Run hot water in sink to warm up before starting
    3. At least 120 degree Fahrenheit water temperature
  2. Open door check wash arm position start washer for a minute
    1. Confirm wash arm has rotated
    2. Check for plugged spray tips at either end of wash arm.
    3. Use small tweezers to remove
    4. Check for rack and dishes interfering with arm rotation
  3. Place cup in upper rack with opening up cycle washer.
    1. Confirm that cup quickly fills with water
    2. Not washing check water level in tub mim 1 1/2 inch
  4. Discontinue use of rinse/dry liquid additive.
    1. Confirm rinse/dry additive not leaking from dispenser into tub
    2. Washer detergent contains sparkle additive and too much sparkle/rinses/dry additive will coat dishes
    3. Try alternative wash detergent that contains minimal rinse/dry additive and use without liquid rinse/dry additive.
  5. It will take several wash cycles after the elimination of rinse/dry to purge the oily film from dishes and machine..
  6. If success "joy" is achieved with no additives then cautiously add back wash detergent with additives. Additives are important to facilitate drying and protecting the glassware china from leaching. The leaching process permanently etches the surface of glassware leaving a cloudy appearance.

The soap does dot dissolve

assuming you are using the correct dishwasher detergent type and quantity recommended for the dishwasher, the likely cause for detergent not dissolving is that the water is not circulating well enough through the wash arm. Check the wash arms are clean. Do dishes come out clean? Run the dishwasher with a cup correct side up on the top rack. If it is empty at end of wash then there is no water in the top arm.

Is the detergent dispenser door open during wash cycle?
Also lack of adequate wash water template can cause detergent to remain undesolved. Hope this helps.

When I put detergent in dishwasher and turn it on, it seems to go through the cycles, but when it stops, the detergent is still in the detergent bin and the dishes are not clean.

Assuming the detergent dispenser door does open, it is likely the water is not reaching the top arms. Put a cup in normal position on the top rack and see if there is any water in it at the end of the cycle.

Likely causes are blocked arms or water distributor or the wash impeller is not working in the pump. The dishwasher uses the same pump motor for wash and drain cycles. You can check this by hearing if the water is getting swashed around when the wash cycle is on.
Check the impeller and water feed as shown in this diagram.

Hope this helps.

Dishwasher is not getting the dishes clean, especially silverware. Even plates. And I hand rinse before loading.

Hi,

Here are a couple of things to look for.

- Water level, start a cycle and let it fill with water, once it washes for a minute or so carefully open the door and look in the bottom, the water level should be just below the heat element. If it is too low you may have to have the water inlet valve replaced.

- Use a fresh and brand name detergent with phosphates. I know this is not the most politically correct thing to say but chemical energy is important to cleaning the dishes, Cascade or Electrosol powder both work well, but be sure it is fresh, old detergent can loose it's cleaning ability. If you have hard water you need to use more detergent or an additive like lemi shine or glass magic

- Put 4 coffee cups in the top rack, one in each corner upright. Run the dishwasher for about 1 minute after the main motor starts. Open the door and look in the cups, if they are not at least 1/2 full of water you may have a pressure problem, check the holes in the spray arms, they should be clear and free of debris. If these are clear and you still have trouble try cleaning the sump, it may be full of debris. Follow the link below for detailed instructions.

Please let me know if any of this helps.

Thanks!

Top rack of dishes is not clean

start by cleaning the dishwasher itself. then you may discover that you are putting objects in invorrectly and the rotars are not spinning correctly or at all because being blocked. also you may want to try a stronger detergent/soap

The top rack is not longer getting clean

Using liquid detergent is the worst detergent to use. One possible solution to your problem could be as follows...pour 2 cups of vinegar in to the tub and run it on the hottest longest cycle with no dishes in it. May need to do this several times (3 to 4). This will clean the residue out and what ever "gunk" may be in the internal parts. Use Only powder detergent. No gel, no liquid and no tabs. These 2 cause a build-up over a period of time of use and reduce the performance of your machine. This should take care of your problem.

No clean dishes

Internal filtersEvery dishwasher has some type of filter to keep large food particles and foreign objects away from the pump assembly:

  • Most modern dishwashers have self-cleaning filters that don't need any routine cleaning.

  • Some have filters in the bottom of the dishwasher that you need to periodically clean. You don't need any tools to remove the filter, and cleaning it is easy. Consult your owner's manual to determine which type you have and its maintenance requirements.
If your filter is clogged, it may be causing the cleaning problem.

Drain valve

Some dishwashers have a valve (or gate) that should open only during draining. If debris lodges in the valve, it can't close properly, so water drains out during the wash cycle. Most dishwashers drain into the garbage disposer. If yours does that, listen for water flowing into the disposer during the wash cycle. If you can hear it then, the drain valve may be clogged.

Spray arms

There's a spray arm at the bottom of your dishwasher--it may have a tall spray tube mounted to the center of it. There may also be a spray arm located directly beneath the upper rack of dishes and/or above the upper rack.

If debris is blocking the holes in the spray arms where the water comes out, it could cause cleaning problems. Regularly inspect each of the spray arms and clean out the holes as necessary.

Detergent cups
Dishwashers don't perform their best if detergent is introduced only at the beginning of a cycle, so add detergent to both parts of the cup.

If the detergent cup isn't opening, see the "The detergent cup doesn't open" section, below.

Note: Dishwashers are usually wired directly to the home’s electrical system. To disconnect the power, switch off the circuit breaker or remove the fuse for the electrical circuit the dishwasher is attached to. Try to turn the unit on after disconnecting the power to be sure you were successful.

CAUTION: If you’re not sure you’ve shut off the power properly, DO NOT CONTINUE. Call a qualified appliance repair technician to complete the repair.
