Simpletech 250GB not working with my computer

I am having problems with getting my Simpletech 250GB to work with my computer. My OS is Windows ME and I know that I need drivers for it in order to get it to work. I just can't find the drivers to do so.

We use the simpletech 250 to store all our photos. I plug the drive into the USB port and it powers up but it is not recognized nothing comes up in the tray and when I explore the drives it is not recognized. If the drive is defective can I get my pictures?

This is the email I sent to & received back from the company re: the same problem I was having with it. You don't need any drivers.

PROBLEM: I have followed directions re: plugging device in, still cannot see device in MY COMPUTER. I have also tried plugging both USB's into computer to no avail. Even tried using it on my laptop, still not showing. My desktop is XP & loaptop is Vista. When I go to remove the dirve, it DOES show as Fujitsu, but I cannot acces the drive or locate it elsewhere. I really want to like this, but will have to return it if this issue is not resolvable.
SOLUTION: You might need to initialize the drive.

Right click on “My Computer” or “Computer” on Vista.
Select “Manage”
On the next screen select “Disk Management”
In the lower middle section you should be able to find your drive.
It will show up as Disk 1 or Disk 2….depending on how many drives you have in your computer.
If you click on the area that says Disk # you should get and option to “initialize drive”.
Also to the right it should show the allocation information for the drive. If it says “unallocated” then the drive needs to be partitioned.
Right click on the white box next to the drive listing.
Select the option “New Partition”
This will bring up the partition wizard and you will need to step through this process.
Select a primary partition.
On the next screen accept the maximum size it will provide.
On the next screen you assign a drive letter.
On the next screen you will do the format and accept the default settings.
The formatting will start and will be busy until it is complete.
You can monitor this from the disk management window.

click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or

if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver

if this fails to fix the problem

check usb leads for secure dust free seating

sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems

hope this helps

if this fails to fix the problem
you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap

hope this helps

hi there,

i will pass on what was given to me for information. if you are still getting power to the drive you can remove the external casing, remove your pc side panel, where you would insert memory and plug the hard drive into the tape inside your pc to see if the pc will recognize the hard drive. if you are not getting any power or platters spinning then it is more serious. i wish you all the best. cherie

Describe your SimpleTech 500GB is not a 250GB

You should not have to install and extra drivers for this device as Windows XP should find this device when you plug it in to the USB port. Try plugging it in to another USB port on your computer. Plug another device in to the USB and see if it works.
When you say the plug and play feature does not work, do you mean that Wndows does not see the device or the backup program is not working?
