i got given a pc from a friend and it had a dell E171FP monitor with it when i turned the power on the screen stayed blank so i pushed one of the buttons and it said it was in powersave mode and i cant get it to come out

- ty ive tried it on another machine but its still doing the same thing someone told me to re-install the drivers so i tried that but still no luck any more advice pleaseSolution #1

If it's going into powersave mode, it usually means it's not getting a signal from the video card. Try plugging this monitor into another machine or laptop and you should be able to tell if that's the issue.
To be sure, if you've got a different monitor available, plug that into you pc, and if that works you know for sure it's a bad monitor.
