Your camera has a lens error, this is such a common fault that I hope you don't mind me pasting my stock generic answer below. No point in reinventing the wheel!

Stuck lenses are probably the most common reason that compact digital cameras get thrown away, but there's a fair chance of recovering use of your camera again

The fault is commonly caused by dirt or grit blocking the mechanism, or due to it having suffered a recent fall. Another common cause is that the camera was in a pocket or bag and the power button accidentally activated and tried to open the lens against resistance. The mechanism may have simply become dislodged or there may be parts which have broken.

If your camera is still under warranty and has definitely not been subject to misuse then contact the Vtech service department in your country to find out about a free repair. If the warranty has expired though a professional repair will far exceed the cost of replacing your camera. You will therefore have nothing to lose by trying to fix this yourself.

Please click here and you will be taken to an excellent article provided by the Camera Repair website. For the most part, you'll be guided on how to physically manipulate your camera to try and clear the fault.

If the link doesn't work then cut and paste the following address into your browser:-

Good luck, I hope you manage to use this information to fix your camera. Please take a moment to rate the free answer I have provided for you and any testimonial which you might wish to add is always welcome!

Why won't it start?

Here are a couple of things you can try:

Turn the lens clockwise then push the power button. As soon as you hear a click when you turn it push the power button and it should power up. Or
1. Push the power button.
2. double-tap the play-button at the bottom and the screen should activate. If so, push the menu-button. Go to settings and choose reset.

My camera turns off by itself as soon as I turn the power on.Even when its plug into the computer

Some parts of the circuit overheated due to moisture. Always keep batteries out of camera, and close it from humidity with a ziplock bag. Now you have to try to dry it off in a dry place(put a fan on the camera), and hope for the best.

As soon as i turn it on it beeps and says turn the power off and on again the lens wont move in and out

I'm sorry that the camera display the eror: turn the power off and on again. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset. Refer the URL for the information to reset a Cyber-shot® digital still camera back to original factory settings:

If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required.

1st, are you using high powered batteries? (NiMH), if so have you tried powering it up via mains power to see if its an issue with the batteries or the camera in general.

Camera comes on then turns right back off

use NIMH batt. NIMH gives you 1.2 power good for camera
ALCALINE & NICD gives 1.5 v which is bad and will discharge soon.
so use NIMH 2500 / 3200

I have the same problem. Removing the memory card and then starting up seemed to fix it; the camera would then start up ok even with the card in.
