Check fuel flow to the engine. Make sure fuel line to the carb has fuel filter on the in-tank end and that it is clear. Make sure there is spark at the plug. Make sure your air filter is clean. Make sure the bolts to the engine cylinder and the lower crankcase cover are good and tight. If all the above check out OK, then you may need to remove the carb and clean it. Possible small fuel line particles entered the carb after it broke so the carb may need to be partially disassembled and cleaned. Post back as needed.

Thou has drained the battery with all your cranking. Recharge unit and now check for spark since you have resolved the fuel delivery issue.

Weedwacker has fire to the sparkplug and new gas to the primer bulb but will not start

sad these little gas engines always fail when we don't want them to . requires a lot of compression to run and if not properly oiled thru the gas will fail .

1977 jeep cj7 will not start very well and when it does it turns over a little and then shuts down any answers ?? the fuel pump seems to be ok.

If I remember correctly that Jeep had a mechanical fuel pump attached to the engine. I suggest you disconnect the fuel line before the fuel filter and put a pressure gauge on the line. Crank the engine for at least 15 seconds and go see if you have at least 7 lbs of pressure. If not, you need a new pump. It that was good, now disconnect the line AFTER the fuel filter and see if you have a sufficient volume of fuel coming out. For that I suggest you have someone else crank the engine while you hold the hose in a pail. If the stream is weak, change the filter, reconnect the line and see what happens. If it still starts and stalls it could be a clogged carburetor.

Did you do a spark check by holding the plug wire away from the engine while someone cranks it? With a spark plug in the wire, hold it at least 1/2 inch from the engine while someone cranks it. That spark should be able to jump off the plug and into the engine. If not, you have a weak coil. If the spark is strong and you have the correct plugs installed, then it almost has to be the carburetor.

Good luck with that, I have fond memories of older jeeps.

Scag tiger cat wont start

I would put new plugs in change the oil put a new in line gas filter in. After this tune-up check for spark by leaving the plug out on the moter body crank it over if the spark is hot you know its a gas problem also check for any grounding by starting it at night then looking around to the engine to see if its grounding out. Try these simple things. Do not change anything on the moter without doing these things first. Good luck

17.5 hp briggs and stratton mower - mowing fine - stopped to gas up - will not start back up - back fires a few times while turning motor over

sounds like you may have a broken valve spring. Do a compression test as you crank it. If the valve spring is broken, you will get nearly zero compression, it will turn over very easily and this would explain a couple of backfires.

Hi Manda, and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or damaged battery.
2. Loose, corroded or broken battery cable.
3. Alternator not charging or below normal rates.
4. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
5. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor.

9. Fuel tank empty.
10. Fuel valve vacuum line broken or carburator vent line closed off.
11. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
12. Failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.

I've put a new sparkplug and new filter -but the blower won't start . Doesn't even feel like it wants to start

Put a spoon full of gasoline straight down the plug hole. Reinstall the plug, if it starts then you obviously have a fuel problem. You may need a new kit installed in the carburetor. Easy fix.
