Question about Washing Machines
You are getting the code because the machine/motor control is detecting the lid switch open and therefore thinks the lid is open. You are likely to replace the lid lock mechanism. But you need to confirm it first before attempting to replace the lid lock mechanism.
Disconnect power then remove the screws securing the console to the rear of the machine.
Lift the console off the cabinet and disconnect the lid lock harness from the bottom right side of the machine/motor control.
With the lid close, check the continuity of the harness terminals 1 and 5. You should get zero resistance (continuous) for affirmative continuity and infinite resistance for open or broken lid switch contacts.
You can bypass the lid switch if you are having difficulty making the continuity test. With the harness disconnected, jump a wire between pins 1 and 5 of lid lock connector on the machine/motor control then plug and start the machine. You should get "dL" or any other code except "lid" on the display if the lid switch is indeed open. In that case, replacing the lid lock mechanism is the only viable solution.
The lid lock mechanism is located under the top cover and access to it for replacement requires the top cover to be lifted. Tape the washer lid closed then press and unlock the two front top locks using a putty knife blade at approximately 6-1/2? from the outside edge of the washer.
Raise the top cover then remove the lid lock mechanism screws and unclip the harness to remove. Install the new lid lock mechanism in Reese order of the removal steps.
