Question about Maytag Atlantis MDG8400AW Gas Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer stopped running, will not restart

I have owned this dryer for about 4-5 years and have had to replace 2 heating elements and one set of solenoids. This morning I threw in a load of clothes to dry for Memorial Day. I went downstairs and found the dryer not running and the clothes damp-dry. I went to restart and nothing happens. The light inside is on, and I unplugged and plugged in the dryer but still no drum rotation. Since I have a house full of guests coming in a few hours, I don't have time to diagnose. For the other problems the drum always turned but the igniter never started. Where should I begin looking?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Same issue, dryer light on when door opened - however dryer does not give any indication of starting. Motor not running - nothing. As if a "fuse" or relay inside the dryer is faulty.

When you try to restart do you hear a motor running? If you do hear that sound and the dryer does not turn your belt could be the problem. (broken)

Maytag neptune dryer doesnt heat

On the housing the element mounts in is a couple of safetys The smaller one is rated for 300f and the bigger one is rated for 250f. If the smaller one is tripped obviously you replace them both, making sure the vent to outside is clear. Them fuses blow or trip because of air restrictions.

Heats when unit is not on

Same thing just happened to my DEGX1. I took it apart and one of the heating elements had broken and fell to the bottom of the metal case. I think it was creating a short to ground and making it heat. I removed the broken element wires and attached them back best I could and did a test run with no problems. It is not heating when off now either. searspartsdirect.com had the elements for $67 so I ordered a set and will replace both of them (part #395583). My dryer is only 4 years old and 3 weeks ago the driver belt broke. Irritating they can't make them last any longer these days.

Will not heat

Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

A burned out heating element will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Replace the element if found defective.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

Brand new dryer heating element burned out.

If air flow is restricted this can cause it. Or if your voltage is high or if you have received an element that has been stretched and is loose this could cause it. You say immediate and how long in loads or time is this? Are you sure the element still has full voltage (220V aprox) to the element?

JUST CHANGED MY GE DRYER TO A 4 PRONG PLUG, NOW NO HEAT

Sounds like your heating element is burned out (acually burned threw) when you moved it if the element was weak it may have broke in two along the coil wires.
Happens alot.

Whirlpool electric dryer not drying

If the drier drum is still turning I would suspect a separate fuse is open for the heating element. Checking this may require openning the back cover. It may also be a defective or open heating element.

Dryer heats with smaller loads

1. unplug your machine and rach as far in the exhaust part of the dryer to see if there is an obstrucxtion
2.Take out the lint filter and make sure there are no gaping holes in the screen
3. Check the exhaust house leaving the machine or blockage, this hose should not run more than ten feet for optimal drying time.
4. its your heating element

It runs, but no heat

i dont believe at this time its anything mentioned at top most people dont realize that dryers are split cuircuts
is this a 220 setup
and if its a 220
the cuircuit breaker for this is set by 110 each one for the heating element one 110 for the guages and motor
goto circuit breaker and flip the breakers this should return your dryer working ability
other thing is are the guages working properly
dryer doesnt have to run to test guages turn to the highest setting and let them run completly threw cycle if they stop on a particular setting for a long length of period then the guages are bad
