Every time I try to run my webcam with Windows Live Messenger it freezes my computer and tells me all my windows are "Not responding"

Make sure you are running the latest Internet Explorer - even if you have another browser set as default.
Uninstall your Logitech software and download the latest from Logitech
Visit the Logitech website and browse the photo gallery for your model and click on the photo to navigate to the support page.
Note - Older models on page 2 - look for the link at the bottom right of page 1 and click on it "Still can't find your product?"

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/405/&cl=us,en?prodcrid=405

In addition to the Logitech installer you will need to run the support software - Microsoft DirectX . This comes pre-loaded on most Windows computers but has to be updated - I am currently on version 11
To start the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK.

Procedure to re-install Logitech software
Close all programs while uninstalling - downloading and uploading software
Disconnect your webcam
Uninstall the current webcam software on your computer
Restart computer
Download the Installation package from Logitech
Run the installer and choose your options during the installation - You may not want Logitech Chat but the Desktop icon for the webcam toolbar is a must.
Connect your webcam when prompted.
AUDIO SET UP
XP
Plug in your webcam or headset or mic you wish to use with your webcam
Control Panel (Classic View)
Open 'Sounds and Audio Devices' folder and click on the Audio tab - make your preferred mic the default device in the 'Sound recording window'
Open 'Volume' below the window to ensure the mic is not muted
Click 'Apply' and 'OK'
Restart your computer
Configure the webcam / mic to your chat program

VISTA
Plug in your webcam or headset or mic you wish to use with your webcam
TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
Right click on the volume graph and select 'Show disabled devices' and 'Show disconnected devices'
To set your preferred mic as default - click the mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Restart computer

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/

If it fails to work here concentrate on your webcam drivers and software before moving forward.

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to WLM (MSN)

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE to MSN
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the MSN software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in, after a few seconds, to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Open MSN
Click 'Open Menu'
From 'Tools; navigate to, and click, 'Audio and Video setup'
Set your speakers
Click 'Test' - if OK, move on.
Set your mic as default
Use the slider to set volume and test.
Click 'Next'
This takes you to the video setup
Your webcam should be broadcasting - (if not - make sure the webcam is set as default - restart MSN)
Use 'Webcam Settings'to fine tune the picture.
Click 'Finish'

Mic not working

The cause of a Web Cam's microphone to stop working can be either a hardware issue or a result from incorrect configurations.
Recommendations:
Determine whether it is a hardware problem by testing the microphone in Sound Recorder.

  1. Click "Start," > "Programs" ("All Programs" for Windows XP) > "Accessories" > "Entertainment" > "Sound Recorder."
  2. Click the Record button and speak into the microphone of the camera. You should see the green line move, indicating the application is picking up sound.
  3. Click the Stop button.
  4. Click the Play button. If there is no sound at playback, check to make sure the correct device is selected.
    1. Click "Edit," then "Audio Properties."
    2. Make sure Logitech is listed as the Preferred device for "Sound recording."
We also recommend using the camera on another USB enabled system.
If you can record sound in Sound Recorder, but not in the QuickCam application, try setting the Logitech Microphone as the Preferred device in Audio Properties.
Additional Information:
Multimedia keyboards that have the ability to control your computer volume may have software that can interfere with your webcamera's sound. If you have a Multimedia keyboard with volume control, the keyboard's software may need to be uninstalled in order for the camera's microphone to work properly in Windows.

My mic doesnt work

to put that in cam microphone working, you need to see on audio settings properties and change the "recording device" to usb audio device, instaid of the soundcard as is. That means that the sound recording will be from the cam's microphone.
The steps are:
1- rigth mouse click on the speaker next to the clock OPEN VOLUME CONTROL
2- OPTIONS - PROPERTIES - RECORDING
3 - in MIXER/RECORDING DEVICE (where is your soundcard's name) change to USB AUDIO DEVICE and then OK
4- In the remaining volume control window, select MICROPHONE and then close all the volume control windows
5- you can test the mic settings in messenger (any version) because of volume and to a clearest voice sound in your pc.

ATTENTION: carefull with the distance between your cam and your sound speakers because of distorcing sound and feedback

Logitech Quickcam Chat - No audio

Try testing it, last time I checked skype has a test section, its hard to find, but its there. You just talk into the mic and skype records it. Then play back.

It is possible the mic isn't working.

Before you consider taking it back, make sure you follow the instructions to the letter.
