Question about Homelite 30cc Piston Cylinder Kit Assy Blower Parts

1 Answer

A young student of mine picked up an old Homelite laef blower that would not start. We have disassembled the item and deterimed that it has spark and the piston and cycindar are in good shape. but appers to be getting no gas to the piston. There is an orange petcock with leters A,B,& C. I am sure this is the root of our problem. Could you explain what these settings mean?

That's just the choke settings. (A is full closed, B is half closed and C is full open or normal running position.) They originally had a paper label stuck on the side of the air filter box that showed this but if the "******" is more than week old and had a little fuel spilled on it that label is of course gone. A really "smart" (read cheap) design.
However. I think these pieces of s--t loose their compression and don't fire up even if you put gas directly into the cylinder. But you can rebuild the carburetor and see if that helps delivers the right amount of gas to get it to run, good luck. I am f--king around with two of these little blowers (should be called "suckers"), trying to make one good one outa the pair but no luck yet.
Best of luck, Tom Pitt

I have an older homelite leaf blower that has not been in use for several years. I put new fuel lines, fuel filter and spark plug on it and clealed resister in muffler. When I try to start it, it will...

The gaskets and the pliable diaphragms in the carb have dried out. Therefore, the carb cannot deliver fuel to the engine. Disassembly and cleaning of the carb will be required (esp. if very old fuel left to dry inside it). After that, a rebuild kit or at the least; a gasket and diaphragm kit will need to be installed. This will then enable fuel to get to the engine. If you repost the exact model number of this machine, I can reply with the part number for a rebuild or gasket and diaphragm kit. Your unit has probably a Zama (will be wrote on the cover with vent-hole) or Walbro carburetor. Kits are available for both.

Hi, your problem my lie with the carburetor. There is what is called a needle valve that is regulated by a spring loaded rocker. This assembly may be out of adjustment causing your motor to starve for fuel when there is higher demand. These items are small and require a steady hand to disassemble and reassemble. Most carb rebuild kits come with the specifications that you require to make this adjustment. Hope this helps!

Homelite leaf blowers that use whats called a half crankshaft system are prone to many problems. Whats a half crank system you ask? If there is a small aluminum plate that attaches to the side of the engine by the gas tank you have one of these. Usually held on with 4 small bolts. I just got rid of a Homelite Vac Attack 2 that had spark and compression but the compression checked low about 75 should be 90 or better. What happened, a head bolt came loose and the engine ran lean causing the fragile rings on the piston to heat up and when that happens they loose their outward spring that seals against the cyclinder walls. A simple compression check using a gauge and not your finger will tell you that. Other causes could be less than normal spark, or maybe the exhaust port under the muffler has carbon build up or the muffler is plugged up also Check all bolts, and nuts to make sure they are tight.

Homelite yard blower won't start

1st how old is the gas and 2nd how long did it sit for since you last used it? If there was any old fuel left in before now (more than 14 days) than it is possible your carb needs cleaning. If it's less than 14 days then you might want to check the compression. IF you have good compression, then you might want to take it to a service center to have it diagnosed.

One suggestion, unscrew the spark plug and reconnect the high voltage wire. In a very dark area move the plug so that the plug thread touches some metal on the engine. Pull the starter cord. If you don't see a spark, remove the two screws on the handle and see if two wires are attached to the Stop Engine Switch. Remove one wire and bend it away from metal and try to see spark when pulling the start cord. If spark occurs, the Switch is shorted and needs replacing.
