ll projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.
TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.
Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.
Instead of typing model number of your TV (that located on right hand side and on the back of TV) you published here part number of your TV's remote control. LOL. Anyway... If it is LCD/plasma panel that you talking about - than power supply have bad electrolytic capacitors that have to be replaced. You can recognize 'em by bulged/swollen tops (instead of flat tops of good capacitors). This repair required soldering skills.
The convergence is out . There are big ICs in the tv that go bad or get bad solder connections, that control each CRT to focus the picture one on top of the other. DO NOT move or try to adjust lens. The fluid is a coolant like in your car to keep the tubes cool.
Dust accumulation in color wheel, light tunnel, chip area can cause green tint.
It is very delicate area, light tunnel and chip can be easily damaged. Remove light engine assembly and color wheel. Blow dust out. Re-assemble. If the gasket around the color wheel housing is not replaced in the right position, or the housing screws not tightened correctly dust will contaminate the color wheel/light tunnel area.
Call someone that has done it a few times. If near Calgary, call me.
The most common problem for those symptoms are convergence amps. That unit takes two stk392-040 Sanyo Ics and will most likely require that several low ohm resistors (3.9 ohm-2w) be tested and possibly replaced.. There is one last thing also, a pico fuse at Fd102 (3.5a) that sometimes opens and would need to be replaced.. The convergence board in these is easily removed, so an in-house service call could be done... Hope this helps
Well, fortunately the television that you purchased has an auto-convergence feature. What is happenning is that your color lamps are misaligned, did it get moved at all recently?
Anyway, in your menu you should see a "Convergence" menu, and inside that menu, a section called "Perfect Focus". Run Perfect Focus in this sequence: Green --> Red --> Blue
After that your picture should look great, if not try tinkering with the manual adjustments on the "Convergence" menu. Here are some URLs that you might find helpful: (just copy+paste into your browser)
