Try another keyboard. If another keyboard works then the problem is in the keyboard. Most likely cause is something was spilled on it causing damage inside. Keyboards are not that expensive to replace.

I spilled liquid on my HP Probook 4320S (with spill resistant keyboard). Dried it up straight afterwards. Now it won't power up

Take it to a service shop asp, key board will need to be replaced, and the laptop will need to be assessed for motherboard damage.

There is no way to know the extent of the damaged done to your laptop. I can only guess that the following parts could be bad, motherboard, battery, optical drive, keyboard, etc, addition laptops are a pain when it comes to dis-assembly

The rules if you spill a liquid on your laptop
  1. DO NOT apply POWER
  2. Remove the power adapter and battery as quickly as possible
  3. Blot up as much liquid as possible
  4. Remove all drives and allow the rest of the liquid to drain
  5. Use a hair dryer on low heat to assist in the drying process
Please note that soda leaves a sticky residue that can cause more problems, more disassemby of the laptop might be required

Hp pavillion 9700 had pop spilled on it and need to replace motherboard, is that all I need to replace or do other elements need to be replaced as well. thanks

It depends on how much "pop" you spilled on it. If it wasn't much you might be able to just repair the liquid damage. I would suggest you have a local laptop tech check it out. The key to getting your machine fixed on the cheap is finding a tech that specializes in laptop repair.

DV9700 motherboards aren't cheap btw and if you're not familiar with fixing laptops I wouldn't recommend you trying to swap a motherboard out, it's not for the average user.

If milk was spilled on the unit what might go bad besides the CMOS Battery and the battery pack for the unit?

HI there,

Actually, the most likely result of the spill would be damage to the motherboard itself as a whole, or any attached components the milk came in contact with.

Some companies on eBay give flat rate quotes with the guarantee that if they can't repair it, there is no charge to you. I use several different companies there for spill damaged motherboards. I've had good success with them.

The reason I stay away from local sources is because the equipment for properly diagnosing and repairing such damage is very expensive and it's just not practical to own the equipment unless you've made a decision to go into the motherboard repair business. It's fairly unlikely you'd find someone near you who is properly equipped unless you just happen to live near one of the comanies listed on eBay.

Of course, you'll incurr one-way shipping costs but it's a small price to pay to be absolutely sure of the extent of your damage.

Best Regards,

Have sent it in for hard drive problems with BIOS and blue screen. HP update BIOS and sent back still same problem so sent back and they replaced hard drive. Now same problem and technician said mother...

1. A "blue-screen" can be caused either by faulty hardware (such as a bad stick of RAM) or by a screw-up within the installed copy of Microsoft Windows.

2. Updating the BIOS will not "cure" any hardware problem, but it may "tune-up" the motherboard's interaction with some other component, e.g., a network-card or a video-card.

3. Updating the BIOS will not prevent any "screw-up" within Windows.

4. Replacing the motherboard, while keeping the same RAM, will not cure any "bad RAM" problems.

5. Replacing the keyboard or mouse or speakers will not "cure" the problem.

6. If they inspected the motherboard, and they found liquid damage (spill of some soft-drink or beer or cream/sugar coffee) that is causing short-circuits on the motherboard, then it depends whether you purchased an "all-perils" warranty that covers user-induced damage (dropped computer, liquid spills) or whether you have a "standard" warranty (to replace a disk-drive that dies).

7. If they replaced the hard-drive, then they (or you) probably installed a "fresh" copy of Windows, which tends to rule-out any "software" problems that would cause a blue-screen.

My suggestion: borrow a Windows 7 DVD from a friend, and boot from it. One of the start-up options is to run a "RAM-test", to extensively test the RAM for faults.

What if i have spill beer on my dell inspiro lattop

Not good to do... ANY liquid splilt onto a computer can cause severe damage to it. If this happens, unplug the computer, remove the battery inspect the components extensively, making sure to dry everything off and let it air out before you try to power it up again. liquid can collect in places you can not see , so you MUST be vigilant about drying it out.

HP DV4000 power problems

This is a very common our shop we have replaced hundreds of power jacks.

I would recommend you send this in for service ASAP as it could cause further damage...even to your mainboard. The jack itself is about $5.00 but the labor can vary upto about $500.00

We charge a flat rate of $129.00 in one of our shops. Make sure whoever you have fix this has experience as your laptop will have to be taken completly apart and your main board removed.

Good luck myfriend.
