Question about Kenmore 9297x Top Load Stacked Washer / Dryer

1 Answer

My Kenmore Elite 92972100 Top Load Stacked Washer/Dryer is taking a very long time to dry. I cleaned out the exhaust hose and noticed a loose wire in the back of the cabinet. Perhaps this wire is for the thermostat? Where should the wire connect to?

Thanks for your assistance. The wire is yellow with a red stripe. I will check the website you mentioned in regards to the parts diagram. Any thoughts on the purpose of the yellow wire?

  • g_morales Oct 02, 2010

The wire is yellow with a red stripe with a small connector at the end. Is this related to the sensor used by the dryer to determine the "dryness" of the clothes?

There is a connector at the end or the wire. I will trace it back to the and see if I can determine where to connect it as a ground

Hi.

If the wire to the thermostat was loose or disconnected, then the dryer won't heat at all. Also the wire to the thermostat carries 110V, if that wire is hot, then there is a serious safety concern. The loose wire is probably the ground wire connected to the chassis of the appliance. This is often a green wire, but color codes may vary depending on country and connection. The wire is supposed to be connected to a screw in the chassis.

About heating problem, if there is poor heating, and air ducts and filters are clean, then a common cause is a defective thermostat. Replace the cycling and high limit thermostat.

You can get parts and diagrams entering the full model number here:Sears Parts.

Regards.

Ginko.

    Hi,

can I ask your location (US, AU, UK etc.), color codes are different depending on the country.

Also, is the red/yellow wire terminated with a connector? In some Kenmore dryer there is a red/yellow that plugs in at the right side of the blower housing connected to the moisture sensor. In that case the wire may be responsible, since the moisture sensor determines when to end the cycle in moisture controlled cycles.
The best way to proceed is checking the blower housing.
If the wire is the green/yellow striped coming from power cord, then it is ground.

Yep, if there is a connector, that is the moisture sensor.Ensure that power is always disconnected when you try accessing the blower housing. Please give me full model number (as printed on service plate), or enter model number here to get the diagram: Sears Parts.

Thanks for the model number. This dryer is the correspondend of the Whirlpool Duet illustrated in service manual below (Kenmore does not build appliance, most Kenmore are re-branded Whirlpool made distributed by Kenmore ).

    Here service manual.

    Here parts and diagrams.

Check the chapter called moisture sensor and the disassembly diagrams in the service manual. If the service manual does not download, click right button on the link Here service manual and choose save file as.

The wire is connecting to moisture sensor, rewire it.

If you think this solution was helpful, then please do not forget to accept.

    All the best.

    Ginko.

When my washer is on the spin cycle it goes out of balence shuts down no matter wht size load or how i arange the load never completes the spin cycle this is a kenmore elite oasis 5 years old. #2 problem...

as for the washer there maybe a broken spring or where the spring attaches that balances the drum. look for this firest. for the dryer is it spinning around at the right speed if it is then the belt is ok. is it hot inside the dryer after running it when you open the door. if ti is check the dryer vent hose and exterior door at end of hose to see it they are plugged up . if the hose is plugged up the heat and moisture can't excape and the clothes will take a long time to dry.

Dryer heats up, but takes hours to dry the clothes, even light weight clothes.

The first thing you need to check is the exhaust tube. Take it off of the back of the machine and off of the wall thimble and clean it out completely. While you have it off clean out the dryer where the hose connects and the wall thimble.

DRYER PROBLEM

When the pads on the front wear, it will make noise when running. They can be replaced. There is one on the top and one on the bottom rim where the drum turns. You remove the front to access them by removing the screws on the top. Post your model number for diagrams. It's usually stamped on a small tag in a visible location on your appliance.

Washer-Dryer- behind or on top of the control panel. Behind the door. On the lower front or side of the cabinet.

I have a kenmore HE2 dryer and matching washer. It is 3 years old. It works and eventually clothes do dry. It does heat up. But it doesn't heat up as hot as it used to and it takes twice as long to dry...

Make sure you check your exhaust line and where the air blows to the outside. If your exhaust vent or hose is bent or restricted it will take a very long time to dry the clothes. Sometimes the vent flap on the outside exhaust is stuck shut. Clear dryer exhaust venting is critical for proper operation. Several companies offer a vent cleaning service where they completely clean out the exhaust lines.

Gas dryer heats fine but shuts down before the drying cycle is over taking longer to dry clothes. Lint trap and exhaust tube cleaned out.

You are going to most likely need a vent cleaning. The dryer is getting too hot and shutting off because it is not exhausting good.

It takes a long time to dry a load of clothes

sounds as if you may have an issue with a blocked/clogged ventin, perhaps wher it leaves the home, a unit that is not able to expell the heat will tend to not dry the clothes properly, 2-3x to dry a good sign of venting issue

Dryer sometimes works other times doesn't

Check and make sure there is not lint build-up in the venting hose leading to outside. This will cause longer drying times and can be a fire hazard. Also, if you use the Aluminum venting hose instead of the white plastic it can cut up to 30 min. off your drying time. It is a lot safer then the white venting hose which can also be a fire hazard. Make sure all the lint is cleaned out from the inside of the dryer where the venting hose is connected. It could be a clog there. This sounds more like the problem since the clothes are actually drying but it could be a partially burnt out heating element. Good Luck.
