Unfortunately if it's getting power but not responding there is little that you can realistically do. When you state "Power is connected ok" I presume that this means you have already tried using the gumstick rechargeable battery (which doesn't last forever, BTW), and also the charging stand. If you have tried both of these, then it's clearly not an obvious fault such as a broken power input socket. You can also try connecting the optional external dry battery case, but this was an optional item with the N-710 and rarely purchased by users, or you can try disconnecting the ac adaptor from the charging stand and connecting it directly via the socket on the player marked DC IN 3v.

The fault is likely a really simple one but the MZ-N710 and almost all other portable MD players were never designed to be repaired and consequently are really difficult to dismantle without causing more damage. When I used to sell these products I was told by the Sony servicing centre that for all but the most minor issues warranty claims were dealt with by destroying the returned unit and sending the customer a complete replacement.

Spare parts were not commonplace when the units were a current model, and now they're as common as freshly laid dodo eggs. Your only realistic fix is to replace the unit.

This may sound negative, but it's not: because MD is now an obsolete format there are millions of perfectly good units lying unused by those who have upgraded. Except for the later and far rarer HiMD models and also flagship regular units like the MZ-N910, almost everything else is near worthless so folks tend not to bother with selling them. As a result it's quite easy to pick up MD equipment for free via your local FreeCycle and Freegle groups; apart from my own MZ-N910 (still in regular use and has a far superior sound quality to any iPod) every piece of MD gear I own was obtained for free, usually with loads of minidiscs as well. Don't be too choosy about what you may be offered as most of the Sony NET MD players (any MZ-N model) can be easily hacked to give them most of the features of the flagship MZ-N910.

If you do end up recycling your MZ-N710, then keep all of the accessories as they can be used on other players which you might acquire.

I hope that my answer has been of use even if you cannot fix your player. Please take a moment to rate my answer.

Monitor will not come on. power light is flashing

Connect the monitor to any computer having windows operating system. Load to the BIOS screen, if the display comes up, the monitor is ok, the software or the driver software for the monitor has been corrupted, else if no display comes up, the monitor has gone bad.

I have Sony md player/recorder,model is MDS-E10. it play correctly but the problem is at recording, once yuo put the recordable empty md and you comand it to record it do not record any thing why the source...

Minidisk systems encode music diffferently than CD's do. The instruction manual for your model can be found at http://www.minidisc.org/sony_mdse10_manual.pdf you will need to reference page 18 for instructions and trouble shooting.

Kenwood MD plays ok but recordings fail to play; U TOC error?

Without a decent Table Of Contents, your MiniDisc will NOT work, as you've found out. Does it matter what brand of MD you use? I would record it at "1X" and NOT 4x speed too. Try erasing a blank minidisc first and then shut off the unit and then turn it back on and see if the TOC works. Try adding a title, then turn it off and back on. Then try the CD to MD.

RTs00c00e00 ERROR MESSAGE, WILL NOT PLAY TURN OFF OR EJECT. TRIED TURNING POWER OFF AND UNPLUGGING, SAME ERROR MESSAGE COMES UP. PLEASE HELP! NOT IN MANUAL.

I just turned on my Sony MDS-JE520 and got the same error message RTs00c00e00. Didn't wanted to play MD, but did throw out the MD. After turning it on and off still got the same message. When I took the remote and pressed the key display, it came back to the normal "mode". Everything works again, so hopefully it stays with only this one-time incident.

Hope it will help you guys also.

Regards, Danny

Sharp MD MT-80H(S) not playing sony minidisc 80

I had a similar problem after not using player for several months - "Can't read" message displayed every time I put a recorded minidisc in the player. Seem to have solved it (maybe only temporarily) by opening the player, inserting little finger in at the righthand front and sliding movable mechanism from side to side. It looks to slide on a bar which had maybe picked up dirt or damp. Also tried blowing a warm hairdryer into the slot for a minute or two (take disc out first!) to remove any damp. Working OK at the moment.

The trouble is unless the experts are constantly over 75% succesfull with posting answers, not all of us can try to answer the premium questions, but anyway, as i always say if you know the hardware you are connecting is not faulty and the lead is ok, then the power supplied to the usb port is inadequate to power the peripheral connected, so after obviously trying other ports and still no luck the only other thing left to try is a mains powered usb hub, as there is more volts powered to the ports than a motherboard can produce.

Your MD player probably isn't LP capable. Attempting to play an LP recorded MiniDisc in a player that is only SP capable will produce no sound even though the display (time counter, track name) looks like everything is operating properly. Record the MD you were attempting to play in SP and you will get sound.
