Sounds like the maps are out of date and do not show recent developments. You may be able to update with shared info on the internet

How long does it take for new roads to appear on updates/downloads?

Navteq, who make the maps for Garmin and many other satnav makers, updates maps every 3 months or so. If they have been told of a new road it will generally appear on the next update unless it's reported too close to the release date. While most new roads are reported to them by the authorities you can report them yourself if you think it should have appeared on the maps by now.

If you want to report a new road or a map error you can do so at http://mapreporter.navteq.com/
There's a guide on how to do this on the left hand side of the site which can be downloaded.

On the screen of my satnav it says i need to upgrade because it is more than a year old , my satnav is a garmin nuvi 200

No, Your Garmin 200W is simply informing you that a update to 2010 is avalable, simply by a date code. Depending on your area you msy have new listings in your area, Coffee shops, ATM, & Hotel listings and new roads & extits
Your current map 2008 will still work just as it did. You can update your maps to the 2010 currently out from Gamins web site, I think the cost is right at $75 per unit

The problem is the gps cant find all the places that i have trying to go

Usually this means the maps for that area is out of date or your search is wrong.

You should go to Magellan and see if they have a update available or if there is a higher resolution map for the area you want. Most maps seem to be 1-2 years behind (or more in some areas) of what is out there. So if this is where new roads are it may not show up on standard maps yet.

When I press on for example, a way home, it shows me the right place I am, but it does not show me the new roads/highways to get there, only the old ones.

The problem is that your maps are out of date. This can happen pretty quickly in growing areas. The problem is that it is quite expensive to purchase new maps for your device and mostly cheaper to purchase a newer device on sale. If you are handy and don't mind risking your device you can search on the web and find ways to put free software that uses free maps from sources like openstreetmap.org

Best Regards

Purchased Nuvi 200 now cant update for free?

2 years is still pretty recent for some GPS. The maps take care of all major roads before new residential areas. Contact Garmin for more clarification.

TomTom GPS actual position does not line up on the map

This may not be the answer you are looking for but here goes.

#1 Is this occurring in one area all the time or randomly?

#2 how far are you traveling when ou notice these type of problems is it just a few miles or have you made a large trip.

if this is in a small area and does deviate all the time in the same area I would expec that this is a map issue.

I see that you did mention that you have the most upto date map possible that would be version 8.15

Just remember the map information in your gps is only as good as the map that is in there and it may not be accurate.

With all that said if you could post back the latitude and longitude of where you are discussing i maybe able to check for you if mine is done the same way.

Up date of road maps

Reinstall TomTom Home and make sure you update your drivers if asked to do so. You also may want to download maps directly from TomTom's map store - http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/select.php

Route calculation error

I was having the same problem and contacted Garmin support.

What I had done was turned off the Basemap that came with the unit. I only had the mapsource map street map on which I had purchased separately.

The technician basically said the unit needed the basemap to "locate itself". Somehow the basemap supports any maps you purchase separately. That seemed odd but once I turned the Basemap back on it calculated the routes and the error message went away.

If you have the Basemap off, try turning it on from the Map Setup - Information window.

Hope this helped.
