Question about Flotec Corrosion Resistant Shallow Well Jet Pump 1/2HP, 8GPM

Open Question

Flotec 3/4 HP Jet pump won't turn off, continues to cycle on and off. It had been working OK except for low water pressure. I've tried everything to get it working again including switching out the tank (the tank has 27 psi pressure) and putting in a new pipe with a new foot valve. I still can't get the pump to turn off. I have to turn the breaker off and then I turn it on when I want water. It does not lose pressure or prime when I turn it off then back on. The only thing that happened was that my well is low due to a drought in this area. It never ran out of water but it was pretty low only about 2 feet about the foot valve. Before I changed the pipe and valve I did notice that when the pump tried to turn off I would see bubbles in the well. What does that mean? Also I should note that when the pump turns off and before it cycles back on there is this noise that sounds like air being pushed out. I don't understand why there would be so much air in the line. The new foot valve works fine.

SOURCE: I replaced old pump w/

The water and therefore the pressure has to be going somewhere. If you are sure that there are no leaks in the house or outside, then the water is going back into the well. There is a check valve either in the suction line of the pump between the top of the well and the pump or down in the well.
If this check valve fails, it allows water to go the wrong way and back to the well. The result is that you lose pressure.
Secondly, you have to be sure that there are no air leaks between the top of the well and the inlet to the check valve. Leaks in that piping will make repriming difficult.

I ask a question yesterday about a flotec 1 hp pump. How do I know if I need to rebuild the pump or if my well has got to low on water?

how deep is the well can you hear the pump working.or are you able to pull the pump up to inspect it.or can you place ahose down the well to be sure that water is down there, some pumps have a pressure sensor so when theres no water it switches of so as it does not opperate dry, because this will damage the seals in the pump, hoe this helps.

Flotec Model FP4012-D8 stopped pumping water. I took pump apart except for small impeller housing edge break I can see no reason for no suction?????

Hi jandh40...

You have an air leak somewhere in your piping, housing of the pump or maybe the mechanical seal and that is causing your pump not to pump.
Try to disconnect the piping and hook a water hose up to the pump and turn the pressure on, it should show you where the air leak is by spraying water out of the leak area.

My 1/2 hp flowtec pump keeps acting up worked great for 2 weeks Then I replaced pressure switch worked for 3 days then changed plastic hose to switch worked for 1/2 a day. Will not shut off

Three things to check
1. There may be getting sediment in the water line to switch. Flush the well tank at the boiler drain to see how much sediment (if any) comes out. Flush well if heavy sediment and call Well company.
2. Make sure the check valve is OK also.
3. If the impeller is bad on the pump it will not build pressure and keep running.
4. The well may be going bad, low volume. Call well company.

I have a 3/4 hp shallow well pump. It running at about ten on my pressure gauge. That means no pressure. What can I do?

If the pump turns on and off real fast, then your pressure tank is water logged. If you have
a pressure tank with a diaphram in it, you need a new tank. If it's a plain tank, then you
need to turn off the pump, drain the tank and turn it on again. All pressure tanks need
a cushion of air on top.

If the pump isn't short cycling, then try adjusting the pressure switch. There are two springs
under the cover, with adjusting nuts on them. One is for the cut in, the other is for the cut out.
I would set it so the pump turns on when the pressure drops to 30, then turns off when it hits 50.

Hope this helps ya !

The pump goes on and off repeatedly

The pump should only run if you are using water. If you have a leak it will cycle on and off. If it only cycling fast when you're using water, you may need an expansion tank, sometimes referred to as a bladder tank for newer style. If you have a "bladder" tank , the bladder may be leaking and lost it's air charge. This bladder will have an initial air charge, and when the pump runs it will compress the bladder even further. When the pump shuts off the bladder is compressed. When you begin to use water, mainly low flow like one faucet, the bladder will begin to expand expelling the water from the tank until the pressure drops below that of the pump pressure switch. This makes the pump start and stop fewer times.

Pump cycles like crazy!!

Sometimes a new tank the blatter will be kinda sealed to the sides of the tank.the amount of air in the tank s/b equal to the cut in pressure of the pressure switch.(40 lb) that would be (60 lb) cut out if you messed with the little screw on the pressure switch you have a problem.there must be the 20 psi of differance between start and stop.

I have a flotec water pump that sits on top of my pressure tank, pump worked ok last season, and when we tried to prime the pump to start this season, it wont pull water up from the well pipe, pump will...

if the pump is working correctly, it can either be, need more water to prime it, or something in the well, such as low water, plugged filter, etc....sometimes when you have a system that is intermittently used, it can take 20 or 30 minutes of continuous priming to get it to pull, enough water to maintain the prime.
