Changing the date on the Oposition is done by pulling out the crown to the first stop (pulling out to the second stop sets the time). Turn the crown clock-wise/counter-clockwise to change the date.

This is not really correct since you still have to move the hour hand through 24 hours per day even to adjust the date by one day. But there is no shortcut.
Crown has 3 positions - normal, out 1 and out 2.
In normal position, rotating the crown does nothing. Pressing button A starts the stopwatch, pressing it again stops it. Pressing button B resets the stopwatch to zero or records split times if stopwatch is still "on".
Taking crown out 1, does not stop the main second hand (on its own dial), moving crown up or down moves the main hour hand one hour forward or back at a time, button A moves the "stopwatch hour dial" hand 1/2 hour forward per press, button B moves the stopwatch minute hand one minute forward per press. Crown out 2 - stops main second hand allowing it to be synchronised with a time signal, moving crown adjusts main minute hand back or forward, button A moves stopwatch second hand forward one second per press, button B moves the "1/10th second dial" hand forward 1/20th second per press. There IS no other setting to adjust the date so you laboriously have to move the hours forward or back 24 times per day to get the date correct. What a pain.

You can get instructions from their web site but if your watch is really old, then it seems unlikely that any of the instructions there are for your watch.

However, since watches tend to have similar features (although not the modern electronic types), a basic modern watch probably operate in the same manner.

Go to "www.longines.com/watches/instructions" and have a look at the range of instructions there to see if they are any help.

If nothing useful is found look at the "official retailers" to see if there is a local shop that can help you.

Battery is dead, needs to be replaced.

Take your watch to your nearest watch shop and ask them to do it for you.

You can get into difficulty replacing batteries and it is not worth the risk for the small cost saving.

How do i change the date on a 1960's longines Admiral?

If you pull out crown gently, you will notice there are two clicks (positions), not just one. So the first click, when crown is not pulled out fully, is exactly for day/date adjustment. If you pull the crown further out, watch is in hand adjustment mode. Try it carefully and you will find out the right position.
